According to TVLine's Kimberly Roots, Toni Trucks will be guest-starring as a tough county lawwoman in an episode of Grimm's upcoming fourth season. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some more details on Trucks' role as well as some additional casting news on the episode that she will be appearing in.

Trucks’ character, Deputy Janelle Farris, will request Nick and Hank’s help with a highway-crime scene that seems a little… off. (In or around Portland?! Who would’ve thought?)

Further details about Farris are slim, save this mysterious piece of info from the official character breakdown: “She finds herself pushing her resilience to the limit.” (Hit the comments with your take on what that might mean.)

In related casting news, Erick Avari (Warehouse 13, The Mentalist) will play a salvage-yard owner whose business attracts Nick’s attention in regard to a string of highway disappearances.

Both Trucks and Avari will appear in the season’s sixth episode. Grimm returns Friday, Oct. 24, at 9/8c.

My thoughts: I'm behind on watching Franklin & Bash, so I can't comment on Toni Trucks' acting. I've also never even heard of Erick Avari before, so I can't comment on his acting either. That being said both her character and Avari's character sound very interesting. Based on the details that were given about the episode that they will be appearing in, it sounds like it's going to be a very interesting episode, and I'm anxious to see what fairy tale or other fantasy elements the episode will involve since I know that the writers draw inspiration from stories that aren't Grimms' Fairy Tales sometimes.

Finally, I'm very excited for season 4 of Grimm to start, and in some ways I'm more excited for Grimm's fourth season than I am for Once Upon a Time's fourth season. I say this because honestly at this point, I have a lot more faith in the creators of Grimm that they have at least somewhat of a long-term plan for the direction of the show since they were already talking about some of their plans for the show's fifth season at Comic-Con this summer. Personally, I think it's very important for writers of a serialized TV show to have a long-term plan for the show that they ideally don't stray from too much if they want the show to be truly good. The fact that the creators of Once Upon a Time decided to incorporate characters from the movie Frozen into the show when the movie only came out in theaters about a year ago makes me feel like they don't necessarily have an endgame in mind for the show. When it comes to Grimm, my biggest concern regarding the show's fourth season is that they will drag the whole thing with Nick not being a Grimm any more out for a long time like they did with the whole Juliette having amnesia storyline.
