Gossip Girl-A Blair Waldorf scheme: Yay! Serena's choice: Yawn... (My thoughts on episode 4.04: A Touch of Eva)

I found this episode extremely frustrating in a lot of ways, so I’m going to try and keep my thoughts brief.

My favorite storyline was definitely the whole thing with Eva inspiring Chuck to give away a lot of money to various charities and decided to put Eva in charge of a large trust fund of money to give to whatever charitable causes that she wanted to. Eva’s relationship with Chuck continued to make Blair jealous, so she decided to dig up dirt on Eva with Serena, Dan and Nate’s help. I always love Blair’s schemes, and I loved it when Blair broke her watch on purpose when Serena caught her spying on Eva via a video-feed at the jewelry store that was being played on Gossip Girl’s blog. That was classic Blair. :)

Once again Serena’s storyline continued to aggravate the hell out of me, because it was all about her love life. She literally bounced back and forth several times on whether she wanted to be with Dan or Nate in the span of this entire episode. First she wanted to be with Dan and was hitting on him like there was no tomorrow while they were trying to help Blair dig up dirt on Eva, then all of the sudden she wanted to be with Nate, but after he told her about his problems with Juliet she kind of backed off and went back to wanting to be with Dan who ultimately rejected her after she admitted that she still didn’t know who she wanted to be with when she returned from Paris, and he told her that she shouldn’t have to choose who she wants to be with, she should just know.

One thing that I did love about this storyline was when Blair told Serena, “You were so easy in Paris.”, after she said that it was easy for her to not want to be with Dan or Nate when they were in Paris. Although, I have to say that I think that Serena is “easy” regardless of where she is. Someone needs to tell Serena that vaginas aren’t like pierced ears. Her vagina isn’t going to close up if she doesn’t sleep with any guys for a while.

Also, I hated the dress that Serena wore to Chuck’s party. You could see Blake’s ribs popping out of the dress. Yuck! She seriously needs to eat a few stacks of pancakes.

Nate’s storyline also really annoyed me, because like Serena it was all about his love life. He continued to date Juliet, and was using Gossip Girl to keep track of Juliet’s whereabouts and became suspicious of her after he saw a picture of her getting off the subway at ten at night when she said that she had been too busy with work to get together with him. He confronted with her about this, and Juliet simply told him that she was meeting with someone. I know that Juliet isn’t being entirely honest with him and is keeping things from him, but I still think it’s creepy that he was basically spying on her.

In the end, Nate thought that he broke up with Juliet, but Juliet later confessed to Nate that she had been lying and that Ben is her brother. She also told him that she wasn’t ready to tell him everything yet. He told her that he understood that, because his family has their fair share of secrets. Juliet said that she wanted to take Nate to her place, but at the end of the episode they showed her paying the doorman of an apartment building to give her a key to someone else’s apartment to pass off as her own since the owners were out of town. I’m really enjoying the whole storyline with Juliet and her secret agenda. I really do wish that the writers would give Nate more storylines centered around his family. I did like that he and Dan had a fair amount of interaction in this episode. I like their friendship.

Dan insisted to Rufus, Lily and Vanessa that he wasn’t upset about Georgina taking Milo, and spent the episode avoiding Vanessa by helping Blair with her scheme to dig up dirt on Eva along with Serena and Nate. When Dan and Serena were working together, they discovered that Eva was a prostitute. Nate confronted Chuck about this, but he told them he already knew that and didn’t care. When Nate telling Chuck this didn’t get him to break up with Eva, Blair took Chuck’s passport and planted it in Eva’s bag to make it look like she had always known he was and was only interested in him for his money. Thinking this, Chuck told Eva he wanted her to leave, but later Lily told that she had just received a package of Chuck’s personal effects that he had on him when he got shot, which included his passport, so he figured out that Blair had planted it in Eva’s belongings to make her look guilty. He ran after Eva to apologize for not believing her, but she told him that she was still going to leave, because he had chosen to believe Blair over her. Brokenhearted, Chuck confronted Blair and told her that he would never forgive her for driving Eva out of town just for the sake of getting back at him for hurting her. I have to say that I used to love Blair and Chuck as a couple, but I’m completely over them. They just aren’t good for each other at all.

Meanwhile, Vanessa met with Juliet to discuss her relationship with Dan. I have to say that I’m not a fan of the Dan and Vanessa pairing. I like Vanessa when she’s not dating any of the main guys on the show and is stirring up trouble for Blair or Serena and just being a bitch. In the end though, Dan told Vanessa that as much as he hated to admit it, Georgina taking Milo broke his heart. I thought that line was sweet, and Dan is definitely my favorite of the guys, because like Blair, not all of his storylines revolve around his love life.

All in all, I didn’t like this episode very much at all. Serena and Nate’s storylines really brought this episode down for me. That being said, I give this episode a rating of a C-.
