Gossip Girl-Good god! Why is Serena so self-centered? (My thoughts on episode 4.05: Goodbye, Columbia)

I absolutely hated this episode, even more than I hated the last episode, so I’m going to try and make this as brief as possible.

I thought that Serena was beyond self-centered in this episode. I really wanted to slap her while I was watching this episode. Juliet continued her vendetta against Serena by sending a tip to Gossip Girl saying that Serena had an STD. Given the fact that both Dan and Nate had slept with Serena, Dan decided to go with Nate when he got tested in solidarity, but Serena asked Nate not to get tested, because she thought it would only confirm the rumor. I’m so glad that Nate called Serena on her self-centered behavior. Besides, I don’t think Serena has the right to get too upset about the rumors given her history of being promiscuous and sleeping around. I would say that in way she brought this on herself to a certain extent.

Also, Serena was having a problem with her professors because she was constantly being late for class, because there was a guy named Colin who kept mooching the taxis every time she was trying to hail a taxi in order to put a different girl in it every day. She confronted Colin about it, and he told her that he was only doing that because he was hoping to see her. Good, god! Can the writers go one episode without giving Serena a storyline that doesn’t involved her love life/sex life?

Vanessa and Dan continued to have problems in this episode. I have to say that I really hate them more and more as a couple with each passing episode. Vanessa can be very preachy, judgmental and annoying, but I do love it when she’s scheming, which she did do a little bit when she helped Juliet with her scheme, because they wanted to find out if Dan and Serena slept together and if Serena did indeed have an S.T.D.

Juliet also sent an email to Serena’s professor pretending to be her saying that she would have sex with him in exchange for good grades, which caused Serena to face the possibility of being expelled. She tried to pin it all on Vanessa, with everyone thinking that she was guilty she decided to leave town for a while. Gossip Girl also posted a retraction about the whole STD rumor. Serena believed that Juliet was the one to thank for the whole thing being resolved and they decided to be friends, but of course Juliet is totally playing Serena. I really love Juliet’s whole vendetta against Serena.

Blair was trying to get into a business seminar and trying to get the job as the professor’s teacher’s assistant. She started spending a lot of time on campus thinking that he wouldn’t try to cause trouble for her, but Chuck decided to do whatever it took to take Columbia away from Blair since she’s the reason Eva broke up with him. Chuck decided to donate money for a memorial on campus for father in order to gain influence. He also got the job as the professor’s T.A., and used his power as the professor’s T.A. in order to keep her from being selected for the seminar. Blair decided to set the professor up with a guy who was a lawyer to be her date at a college party, but Chuck found out and had a woman show up at the party claiming to be the professor’s date instead. This led the professor to tell her that she will never let Blair into her class. Later, Blair and Chuck get into a huge fight about the whole thing, and Blair said she would blackmail the teacher to get into her class if she had to. The professor overheard them and said she was quitting her job, disgusted by their behavior. I have to say that I used to love Blair and Chuck as a couple and wanted them to be together, but now their relationship has just become sick and toxic. They definitely don’t belong together now.

All in all, I absolutely hated this episode, so I give it a rating of a D-.
