It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: There’s nothing quite like a funeral for an imaginary baby (My thoughts on episode 7x04 Sweet Dee Gets Audited)

I have to say that I absolutely loved this episode. It was definitely a rather dark episode in terms of the humor in this episode, but regardless it was still extremely funny. One of the things that I liked the most about this episode is that it revisited the fact that Dee was a surrogate for Carmen and her husband last season. When they did that storyline, I was totally expecting that they would never mention it again after season six. I figured that they were merely doing that storyline as a way to write Kaitlin Olsen’s pregnancy into the show so the producers didn’t have to go through the trouble of having to come up ways to hide Kaitlin’s pregnant stomach whenever she was in a scene last season.

This episode reminded me a lot of season five when they did a lot of episodes that were basically a social or political satire on various issues like the episodes “The Gang Exploits the Mortgage Crisis”, “The Great Recession” and “The Gang Wrestles for the Troops” were. I thought that Dee’s interactions with the lady from the I.R.S, were absolutely hilarious, especially when the lady pointed out that the license plate on her scooter said “$cammin”. I can’t believe the lengths that Dee went to try and convince her that she actually had a baby boy named Barnabas by buying a crib and a bunch of other things that someone with a baby should have. Watching the Gang try and pull off crazy schemes like this only to have them backfire on them in the end is one of the many things that I love about this show.

Two side notes that I would like to make: Why was Dee driving her scooter into Paddy’s and into her apartment building? Couldn’t she have just left it outside? Also, where did she come up with the name Barnabas? That name is so weird. Why didn’t she pick a name that was more normal for her fake baby boy?

The other storyline with Mac, Dennis, Charlie and Frank trying to make business decisions regarding Paddy’s Pub in a more democratic way instead of just dealing with things in a very chaotic manner was also absolutely priceless. I think it’s ridiculous that they couldn’t even manage to decide whether to cut the limes for drinks thinly or have them be cut thickly without getting into a huge fight about it, but the fact that they were fighting over something so stupid made the whole thing very funny. Although, I suppose that it’s possible that bars and restaurants actually do decide to cut things such as limes a certain way to save money. They were also trying to decide what to do with a dead dog that was in alley outside of Paddy’s Pub. Mac and Charlie wanted to have a funeral for the dog, but Frank and Dennis thought that was a waste of time and resources, especially since they never even knew the dog.

I love the fact that Mac and Charlie were constantly chanting, “Reason will prevail!” because they thought that it would help them make their argument about various things. I also love how they referred to themselves as the pickle party. That was hilarious. :)

It was also fun to see more of Frank’s shady business dealings in this episode when he teamed up with Dennis to create a fake business that made and sold “Wolf Cola” as a way to deal with the money that Paddy’s made. The scene where they were talking about their fake business was classic, especially the part where Dennis was talking about his “God hole”. That scene had me practically dying of laughter while I was watching it.

While I absolutely love all of the characters on the show, Dennis has never made me laugh nearly as much as all of the other characters on the show always have, but when it comes to this episode, he had me laughing nonstop the entire time I was watching it. Dennis definitely stole the entire episode for me personally, even more than Dee who also had me laughing nonstop as I was watching it.

I get that Mac can be rather firm in his Catholic beliefs from to time, but I don’t get why he was so intent on having a crucifix in the bar. That’s just silly. What kind of a bar has a gigantic crucifix in it like the one they had in this episode? Once again, they featured fake blood in this episode, because they were trying to decide if they should put fake blood on the crucifix. I don’t get the sudden obsession with fake blood that they have this season. I think it’s funny how they’ve incorporated it into the show, especially when Charlie started vomiting fake blood in the season premiere, but I have to ask, did the producers sign some sort of a product placement deal with a company that makes fake blood?

Frank, Dennis, Mac and Charlie all freaked out when Dee told them that she had told the people at the I.R.S. that she worked at Paddy’s because they were afraid of what would happen if the I.R.S. got access to the pub’s financial records, so in the end they decided that the best thing to do was act like Barnabus had died suddenly and have a fake funeral for him. That is so weird and twisted, but at the same time I thought that it was very funny. The picture of the baby that they were claiming was Barnabus with “2010-Too Soon” written on it almost killed me with laughter. Also, the fact that they kept mentioning Wolf Cola during the funeral was hilarious.

I love that Dennis pointed out to Dee that she basically has no chance of ever being an actress if she can’t cry on cue. Dee really has no hope of ever being an actress, and I have no idea why she continues to believe that she will one day be able to be a successful actress. Dennis’ blowing chili powder into Dee’s eyes in order to make her cry and watching her freak out about her eyes hurting from the chili while she was trying to give her eulogy for Barnabus was priceless.

In the end, Mac and Charlie realized that Frank and Dennis were scheming behind their backs and decided to expose the fact that there wasn’t really a baby in the casket that they had gotten by tipping it over, causing the dead dog from the alley to fall out of it and onto the floor since Frank had decided to put the dog in the casket without telling them. The lady from the I.R.S. got really weirded out by the whole thing and just left Paddy’s. They also decided to go back to their old way of doing things, which they referred to as “organized chaos” where they just yell at each other to get what they want. I love that even Frank agreed that he shouldn’t be in charge anymore.

All in all, this episode really did make me laugh nonstop, and I love how they brought the two storylines together at the end of the episode. That being said, I give this episode a rating of an A+.
