According to Zap2it's Carina Adly MacKenzie, Lindsey McKeon who's best known for her roles on Supernatural and One Tree Hill, has been cast in a recurring guest-star role for season 5 of 90210. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on McKeon's role:
McKeon's character, Suzanne, first appears in Episode 3. She's a confident, wry-humored patient who has taken control of her medical situation and acts as a mentor to Silver (Jessica Stroup).
As fans of the show know, Silver recently learned that she carries the Braca gene, which increases her susceptibility for breast cancer, which killed her mother. "Lindsey's playing a person that Silver knows from her Braca gene awareness," executive producer Patti Carr tells us. "She's playing a character who also has the Braca gene."
Executive producer Lara Olsen teases, "She's kind of a force of good, but she's sort of the thing that makes Silver realize what her problem has been the whole episode."

My thoughts: Maybe other people don't feel this way, but I felt like Patti Carr and Lara Olsen really put Silver at the center of the show when they became the co-showrunners last season unlike Rebecca Sinclair who centered the show around Naomi. I'm really glad that Carr and Olsen focused more on the character Silver than they did on Naomi last season. While I do like the character Naomi, I personally think that Silver is the best character to put at the center of the show for several reasons. First off, Silver is 90210's connection to the original series, and secondly, I think she's a character that's a lot easier to relate to than Naomi is. I think it's safe to say that most people who watch the show don't have trust funds that seem to have an unlimited amount of money in them. If I had to guess, most people who watch the show's financial situation is more similar to Silver's for a college age student. Finally, I personally found Silver's storylines a million times more interesting than most of Naomi's storylines were last season.
For me personally, a lot of Naomi's storylines had a major "been there, done that" feel to them last season because they reminded me of a lot of the storylines that Gossip Girl did in season 4, and I personally felt that Gossip Girl's versions of those storylines were a lot better and a lot more interesting. That's not saying much though, because the writing for Gossip Girl has been beyond terrible for the most part for the past two or three seasons. That being said, I'm really looking forward to this breast cancer storyline with Silver. It sounds like this is going to be an interesting storyline.
