According to TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich, Sterling K. Brown has been cast as a love interest for Detective Carter. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Brown's role:
Per our sister site Deadline, Brown will play Cal Beecher, a no-nonsense narcotics detective who will evolve into a potential love interest for Taraji P. Henson’s Detective Carter. TVLine has learned he will first appear in Episode 8.
Earlier this fall, the POI showrunners told us they planned to reveal “a little more about Carter’s personal life, what makes her tick…. We’re hoping to explore who she is and how she became who she is.”

My thoughts: I've never heard of Sterling K. Brown, so I can't comment on his acting. That being said, I'm very excited about this news because as I was watching season 1 of Person of Interest on DVD, I constantly found myself wishing that they would explore Detective Carter's personal life more than they did last season. I personally think it will be really interesting to see the writers explore her love life, because at the moment I think of her mostly as a cop and not much else. It will be nice to see the writers flesh the character Detective Carter out a little bit more this season and hopefully she'll become a more well-rounded character as they do that.
