Here's an interview that Maia Mitchell (Callie) did with TVLine's Vlada Gelman, which gives some scoop on this week's episode, episode 1x07 "The Fallout". In the interview, Maia talks about Liam coming back into Callie's life and how it will impact her life, Callie's relationship with Brandon and whether or not she has feelings for him, and Maia also talks about Callie and Wyatt's relationship. Here's an excerpt from the article:
TVLINE | What does possibly having Liam back in her life do to Callie?
It forces her to face things that she’s really shut away. She’s just been in survival mode. Everything she does is a survival mechanism. She gets through each day and can only deal with so much. She’s a young girl. Without the support of family and friends, she really had to deal with all of her misfortunes completely on her own. So Liam really forces her to face some big things that she hasn’t worked through and hasn’t really processed properly. She’s holding onto a lot of guilt and anger and upset. She learns that she can’t face those [things in her past] alone and she begins to really open up to the people around her. That’s a huge, huge, huge thing for Callie.
TVLINE | So instead of this threatening her and Jude’s placement, does it make her a little more ingrained in the family?
It does. It really does. She’s always going to be wary of that. I don’t think that you’re going to see Callie completely feel comfortable in that house any time soon. She just can’t get there yet. But it definitely does help her feel closer to the family. The way that they handle it and the way that they support her definitely makes her feel safe on a level that she hasn’t really felt before.
TVLINE | We don’t know too much about Liam yet, and the mind goes to some really dark places when trying to fill in Callie’s backstory with him. What can you say about the trauma there?
It is something that is quite huge and definitely will give you some answers as to why Callie is the way she is, why she’s so callous and so harsh, but also as to why she’s so vulnerable. It definitely gives you a much bigger understanding of Callie.

My thoughts: Personally, I'm really excited to learn more about Liam and what happened between him and Callie. I like that it sounds like Callie's actions regarding Liam's return will be driven by her desire to keep Jude safe, especially since it sounds like Stef and Lena's house has been the best and safest foster home that she and Jude have ever lived in. As for Callie's relationships with Wyatt and Brandon, I don't really care for Wyatt all that much, so I'm definitely not rooting for them as a couple. When it comes to the possibility of Brandon and Callie being a couple, while Callie is essentially only Brandon's foster sister, I still think the idea of them being a couple is kind of gross. I really hope they don't become a couple at some point in the future, and I think Brandon is being rather self-centered if he wants to date Callie. After all, he knows the rules about foster siblings not being allowed to date.
I'm not quite sure yet where the writers are going with Jude's character. A part me thinks they are trying to hint at the idea that Jude might be gay, and another part of me thinks they are trying to set up the idea that he's transgendered or is going to end up being a cross dresser given the incident that Callie mentioned where Jude got beat up by a previous foster dad after he was caught wearing one of his wife's dresses. While he might not know Jude all that well, Brandon should know that Jude could potentially end up in another dangerous situation if Callie and Jude were removed from his families house and placed with another family who might not be as understanding and accepting of Jude as Lena and Stef have been all because he and Callie became a couple.
That being said, this storyline has been very interesting so far and I can't wait to see where it goes. As for Maia Mitchell's acting on the show, I think that Maia has done a fantastic job of playing Callie so far. She's definitely a very talented actress.
