Gossip Girl-A summer in Paris Part 2 (My thoughts on episode 4.02 Double Identity)

This episode was basically all about the end of Blair and Serena’s trip to Paris. Gossip Girl was running a poll on which guy Serena would choose to be with, which led Serena to spend the episode trying to decide which guy she wanted to be with (Dan or Nate). Oh, joy! Yet another episode where Serena’s storyline is centered around her being with a guy or in the case of this episode, guys. There’s a real shortage of episodes of Gossip Girl like that. Sarcasm.

I did love Blair’s response to Serena likening to Dan and Nate to gourmet desserts, saying that Dan was a more a doughnut as opposed to a gourmet dessert considering everything that happens between Dan and Blair later in the season.

Nate spent the episode hanging out with Juliet, who encouraged Nate to do whatever it took to get Dan out of the running to win Serena’s heart as a part of her secret plan. Seriously, can someone tell me what the appeal of Serena is? I just don’t think that Serena is all that special. I liked the conversation that Dan and Nate had about their feelings for Serena though. In the end, Nate decided to continue his relationship with Juliet only to have her reject him since she realized that he’s not completely over Serena. Juliet also told Nate that he should come back to her once he thinks he can handle being with her. Also, why does almost all of Nate’s storylines involve him dating some girl? Why can’t the writers give Nate more storylines that are centered around all of his family drama? Those kind of storylines have always been my favorite when it comes to Nate’s storylines on Gossip Girl. Dear Writers, Please, for the love of god come up with storylines for Serena and Nate that aren’t all about their love lives! Grrr.

I’m loving the whole mystery with Juliet and her secret plan even though I already how certain parts of her mystery turn out. I think Katie Cassidy is doing a wonderful job of playing Juliet.

In the end, Dan realized that he’s over Serena after read a post on Gossip Girl about her and didn’t care what it said about her. He also told Vanessa that he wants to be with her. Yay! I’m so glad that Dan appears to no longer be under the spell of the extremely overrated Serena Van Der Woodsen.

Meanwhile, Lily asked Serena to go to the morgue and identify the body that people believed to be Chuck’s. Blair saw Chuck while she was riding in a taxi. Infuriated, she told the taxi driver to hurry up and drive away. Later, she didn’t tell Serena that she had seen Chuck, so Serena was stunned when she went to where Chuck was staying and saw him. She was even more shocked when he acted like he wasn’t Chuck and that she didn’t know who he was. Chuck was going this, because he had told Eva that his name was something else.

Blair continued to spend time with Prince Louis and was intent on trying to convince him that she wasn’t interested in him solely for his title. Both Blair and Serena found out that Chuck has been planning to propose to her when he was shot in the season 3 finale after they found they ring that he had bought for her in a jewelry shop.

Rufus and Lily spent the episode preparing a nursery for Milo, in an effort to show their support for Dan. At the end of the episode, Rufus realized that Milo can’t be Dan’s son after he had Milo’s blood type compared to Dan’s and saw that Dan’s blood type is AB+, which would rule Dan out as Milo’s father since Milo’s blood type is O-. Even if I hadn’t already seen the later season four episodes of Gossip Girl, I would have known that Dan wouldn’t be Milo’s biological father. After all, this is Gossip Girl, not The Secret Life of the American Teenager. They still need to tell Dan that he isn’t actually Milo’s father though.

In the end, Blair and Chuck have a nice talk. She told him that he should have told her where he was and that he shouldn’t have run away in the first place. Chuck told her that he chose to pretend to be someone else, because he wanted a fresh start. Blair told Chuck she didn’t love him anymore, and that not even he could destroy her anymore.

Blair also gave Louis one of her expensive shoes, in a Cinderella –like move so he might be able to find her someday since the timing wasn’t right for them to be together now and then went back to New York.

Also, Serena decided she wanted to be with Dan, only to realize that he had chosen to be with Vanessa.

At the very end of the episode, Chuck told Eva that his real name was Chuck. I have to say, I’m really interested to see where Chuck’s relationship with Eva goes. Eva really intrigues me.

All in all, I would rate this episode a C+ since it was focused way too much on Serena for my taste. Yeah, in case I haven’t made it clear yet, Serena is my least favorite character on Gossip Girl.
