Brothers and Sisters: Pot Brownies, and coffee shop make out sessions, and disastrous hotel room romantic getaways! Oh, my! (My thoughts on episode 5x09: Get A Room)

Here’s a quick recap of the plot for episode 5x09 (Get A Room) before I get to my thoughts on the episode: Kitty meets a hot, young 27 year-old coffee shop barista named Seth. They first start off talking about politics and a college seminar that Kitty is going to be teaching. Seth gives Kitty his phone number and they end up making out in a supply closet at the coffee shop. Later on they end up going to a hotel together and have sex. They end up talking, and it turns out that Seth is going to be taking her seminar, which causes Kitty to freak out. Ultimately, Kitty admits that she really likes Seth, and she decides to explore the possibility of having a relationship with him.

Nora and Karl continue to do their radio show together. They go out to lunch, which leads them to decide to go to a fancy hotel for a romantic getaway at a hotel that the radio station is advertising since the hotel is doing a special promotion. Due to a series of misunderstandings, Sarah is led to believe that Karl is fooling around with another woman and makes an angry phone call to him, which leads him to have second thoughts about their relationship because he was married once before and it didn’t well, but they eventually work things out at the end of the episode and decide to have dinner at Nora’s house.

Sarah and Luc go to the same hotel that Nora and Kitty are at before Luc goes away to paint a mural, but it quickly becomes a disaster after Sarah accidentally kicks Luc in the head and dumps a bucket of ice on him. Meanwhile, Kevin and Scotty are now trying to do a foster adoption and Kevin is freaking out about making a good impression with the social worker and ends up eating a brownie that belonged to one of Scotty’s chefs while he’s on the phone talking to Kitty, not knowing that it’s a pot brownie. Once Kevin gets high, he starts freaking out even more about the social worker’s visit because he forgot that the social worker wasn’t coming that day and he turns to Sarah for help getting rid of his high since he’s only been high once before in his life and Sarah managed to help him get rid of his high that time. In the end, the social worker ends up having to cancel her meeting with Kevin and Scotty, which leads them to talk more about the fact that the past few months haven’t been easy for them because of the fact that Scotty revealed that he had a one-night stand with another man during the on year time jump. They also acknowledge that they haven’t had much time for just the two of them lately, so they decide to go on a trip to Las Vegas for a second honeymoon.

Okay here are my thoughts on the episode…

I have to say that I absolutely loved the episode. My favorite storyline was definitely Kevin’s storyline. Kevin being high was absolutely priceless. I loved how he said that when he got high the first time he smoked pot before he went to college that he started speaking Spanish after reading a Spanish textbook and hallucinated that Nora’s head looked like a giant piñata. I really love seeing Scotty trying to take care of him and comfort him when he was high, because I’ve always loved watching Kevin and Scotty together. I’m also glad that they once again acknowledged their problems and that they decided to go to Las Vegas for second honeymoon, but I have to say that I think it’s pretty sudden of them to be planning to adopt a child. For starters, it was only four episodes ago that Scotty told Kevin about his one-night stand. As much as I want them to finally have a child, I really don’t think they should be adopting a child so soon after that. Another thing, when did they even meet with an adoption agency to start the adoption process? We didn’t even see them do that or hear them even talk about that until this episode. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised about any of this though, the writers have always moved at lightening speed with storylines and the pacing of relationships.

It was really nice to see a decent amount of interaction between Kevin and Sarah in this episode. Out of all the combinations of sibling interactions between the Walker siblings, the Kevin and Sarah interactions are always my favorite. I loved Sarah’s cure for Kevin’s high when she told him that there was a swat team with drug sniffing dogs in the hotel in order to scare him. That was hilarious! I do feel bad for Sarah that she didn’t get to have her romantic getaway with Luc before he goes away for a while to paint a mural.

I loved Nora’s storyline with Karl and how it collided with Kitty’s storyline with Seth. I thought it was pretty funny how pretty much the whole family ended up going to the same hotel. I’m not sure what I think of the Kitty and Seth pairing yet. I never really thought of Kitty as being the type of woman who would date a significantly younger man. I really like Nora and Karl together, but the spoilers I’ve read make it seem like they won’t be together for too much longer.

One last thing, I thought that it was pretty weird that Justin wasn’t in the episode and that nobody mentioned where he was. I really wish that they had said where he was. All in all, this really was a great episode, and I can’t wait for Sunday’s episode.
