Let me start off by saying that I absolutely loved this episode, and I think that this episode was a trillion times better than the train wreck that was the previous episode “Frank’s Brother”. The thing that stood out to me the most as I was watching this episode was definitely Dennis and Glenn Howerton’s performance as Dennis in this episode. Dennis has really stood out to me a lot in all the episodes that have aired so far this season in a way that he never has before. I love all of the characters on the show, but before this season, if I had to rank the characters from my favorite to least favorite, I would have ranked them as followed: 1) Dee 2) Charlie 3) Frank 4) Mac 5) Dennis, but based on all of the episodes of season seven that have aired so far, I would now rank them 1) Dee 2) Charlie 3) Dennis 4) Mac 5) Frank.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love Frank, but Dennis has simply been really standing out to me a lot more this season than he has in the past as a funny character. Glenn Howerton plays the role of Dennis Reynolds perfectly, and I think that Glenn’s performance in this episode was Emmy worthy. He definitely deserves an Emmy for his acting on the show, even if it wasn’t for this episode. Everyone in the cast deserves an Emmy for their acting on the show, and I also think that It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia deserves to win an Emmy for best comedy series. Sadly, I don’t think that will ever happen. This show is extremely underappreciated.
One of the main highlights of the episode for me was definitely the scene where The Gang went down to the bunker that they had originally set up in the basement of Paddy’s Pub in preparation for Y2K only to find that it had been raided by Dennis, Mac and Charlie. I loved Dee’s reaction to finding out that Dennis had been having sex with women in the bunker at one point and that Mac and Charlie had watched him while he slept with them. Charlie’s fixation with pickled eggs in that scene and throughout the rest of the episode was absolutely priceless, and that scene specifically was downright hilarious.
Another one of the highlights of the episode for me personally was the scene where Dennis is talking to two girls that he saw at the bulk store and is trying to get them to come back to the bar with them so he could have sex with the two of them, only to flip out after they told him they had boyfriends. That scene was beyond priceless. He was again rather creepy, yet hilarious when he was lurking in the background as the news reporter at the store, Jackie Denardo, was giving an update about the storm. I really do think that Dennis is a sociopath, but in a way that’s downright hilarious, and that seems to be a very popular opinion with all of the viewers of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia that I’ve encountered on the IMDB message board for the show.
The scene where Dennis was trying to explain the contract to Charlie that he had written for girls to sign before they came back to Paddy’s Pub with them and that it was for the girls to sign, not him, was beyond hilarious. I can’t believe that Charlie thought that he was supposed to sign Dennis’ contract. All of Dennis and Charlie’s scenes together in this episode were great though.
Dee also really stood out to me in this episode, but then again she constantly does since she’s my favorite character on the show. I loved it when she said, “Let’s stop pussy-dicking around.” That was probably the best line in the episode, if you ask me. I love how she kept talking about how she thinks that computers will one day destroy humanity throughout the episode. I really enjoyed her scenes with Frank in this episode and how he kept insisting that the media is constantly trying to hype things like Y2K up too much.
The scene where Dee was trying to drive Rickety Cricket to the hospital and was freaking out after they found him in the storm cellar in the basement of the bar and Frank shot his hand, but ended up going to the store where Dennis and Charlie were because they found out that Mac had left the store without Dennis and Charlie was beyond priceless. They thought that he had left them to go to the Poconos, but they showed him in the basement of Paddy’s Pub watching them at the store on a 3-D TV.
It seems to me like the writers are slowly killing Cricket off the show, because he just keeps getting injured in some horrific way pretty much every time we see him. This probably makes me sound heartless, but I love how Cricket’s life just keeps getting crappier and crappier as a result of the Gang’s actions, so I hope the writers don’t kill him off for a while, if that’s the direction they’re going with Cricket. If he does die at some point, I hope they wait until the end of the series to kill him off, because his life continually getting worse and worse because of the Gang’s actions is one of my favorite running jokes on the show.
I found the guys’ whole obsession with both of the weather girls’ breasts and wanting to get a 3-D, because they thought it would make the girls look even more attractive rather hilarious.
One of my favorite aspects of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is the fact that the writers aren’t afraid to be very politically incorrect, and I thought that this episode really showcased that in this episode in the scene where the Gang was talking about the Mayans having sex with the Spaniards becoming Spaniards and how the Mayans had predicted that the world is going to come to an end in the year 2012. The fact that Charlie kept talking about the Mayans throughout the rest of the episode made the whole thing even funnier.
I loved the ending of this episode. It turned out that the huge hurricane that they were expecting to hit Philadelphia was just going to be a fairly minor thunderstorm. However, the episode ended in chaos after Cricket drove Dee’s car into the store, which led to everyone in the store to start running around the store in a panic and stealing things from the store because all of the cash registers were down due to a system overload. That’s my favorite kind of ending to an episode of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I always think it’s hilarious when an episode ends in chaos, usually with The Gang all yelling at each other, like they did in episode 7x04 “Sweet Dee Gets Audited”.
All in all, I absolutely loved this episode. Glenn Howerton’s performance really was the best thing about this episode, but the rest of the cast was great in this episode too. This episode had way too many funny parts that made me laugh hysterically for me to count them all. That being said, I give this episode a rating of an A+.
