The final episode, titled "Afterbirth," centers around a new family moving into the house. Why? Because psycho Hayden and (I think) two of the strangers from the nurse episode hang Ben from the chandelier in an apparent "suicide." Ben had been planning to kill himself anyway, but Vivien and Violet convinced him not to and to flee the house with the baby. But there's no stopping crazy Hayden. So now the entire Harmon family is trapped in the house.
The Ramos family buys the house from the nutty real estate agent and the husband and wife immediately start talking about a baby, which Ben and Vivien know is bad idea jeans in this particular house, so they decide to scare the family to death (or just until they leave the house). Moira and the Black Dahlia are in on the effort as well.
After driving the Ramos family from the house, Vivien finds her stillborn baby as a ghost in the basement with Nora and takes him, asking Moira to be the godmother and forming a lovely familial tableau 'round the Christmas tree.
Meanwhile, Constance is the one who found Ben's body and she promptly kidnapped the baby (who is beautiful and perfect) and is keeping him in her house next door. The show fast-forwards three years, where Constance is keeping Michael (the baby who lived) as her adopted son. And he turns out to be a murderous little psychopath, slaughtering his nanny as a three-year-old.
Thoughts & Tidbits
- Tate is still obsessed/in love with Violet, even after she says goodbye to him. We hope that relationship continues into next season, it's one of the best things about the show. Didn't he just break your heart when he said to Dr. Harmon, "Can you just ... hang out with me sometimes?"
- Or maybe he really is a psychopath and has been playing us the whole time. Jury's still out on that one.
- The "Little Drummer Boy" sounded just exactly like the one from the "West Wing's" episode "In Excelsis Deo." I wonder if it is that version.
- Where on earth does Season 2 go from here? Will Vivien, Ben and Violet be main characters? Will they be supporting characters, guest stars? Will there be a new family in the house? And how does that not get played out?
- Ben and Vivien were kind of hilarious as snarky ghosts, we hope they stick around.
- Clearly Jessica Lange and Michael will be the focus next season. I mean, we guess "clearly," we really have no idea where the show is going. We hope the creators know. We can't wait to find out, though.
