Here's some scoop on The Office from this week's (Posted on 4/24/12) Ask Ausiello column.
Question: Anything else on the season finale of The Office? —Chris
Ausiello: All of the uncertainty surrounding who is and isn’t returning next season actually made the episode easier to write, according to departing showrunner Paul Lieberstein. “We often have to try to figure out how we are going to start the next season and then write to it in the finale,” he explains. “Without that option, we just focused on what we knew — James Spader is leaving, so exiting him in a fun way is built into the story. And the dynamic between Andy and Nellie [Catherine Tate] has been great, so we continued to play with that.” Lieberstein, BTW, tells me the finale will most certainly end with a cliffhanger.
