A&E Orders Psycho-Inspired Bates Motel Prequel Series From Lost Boss Carlton Cuse-TVLine

 Psycho

According to TVLine's Vlada Gelman, A&E has given a straight-to-series 10-episode order to Bates Motel, which is being developed by executive producers Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood). Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on the show:

The Psycho prequel drama is a contemporary exploration of Norman Bates’ formative years; his relationship with his mother, Norma; and the world they inhabit. The dark, twisted backstory will reveal how Norma helped to create the famous serial killer.

“We are proud to be partnering with Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin on their thrilling reinvention of one of the most compelling characters in cinematic history,” A&E Network president Bob DeBitetto and EVP of programming David McKillop said in a statement announcing the news. “It’s a provocative project from two of the best storytellers in the business, and we’re looking forward to getting started.”

Bates Motel is slated to premiere in 2013.

My thoughts: I've actually never seen the movie Psycho, but I'll definitely check this show out when it starts. The premise of the show sounds very interesting. Plus, I'm a huge fan of the show Lost, and I love Parenthood as well, so I think it's encouraging to know that there are two very talented writers developing this show. I just hope that Cuse and Ehrin do this show justice and that they do it in a way that honors the movie that has inspired this project. I guess this gives me a reason to finally watch the movie. :)
