According to TVLine's Kimberly Roots, Tone Bell has been cast as a new friend for Alex in season 2 of Whitney. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Bell's role:
In a recent conversation with TVLine, series creator and star Whitney Cummings described the series regular role as a “very sexy, sort of new guy character friend” for her on-screen love, played by Chris D’Elia.
She also hinted that RJ “could maybe be a love interest” for the newly single Lily (Zoe Lister Jones).

My thoughts: I'm not familiar with Tone Bell as an actor, so I can't comment on his acting, but it will definitely be interesting to see Alex get a new friend and to see how he fits into the show, especially considering the fact that it sounds like he's also going to be a love interest for Lily. I'm sure the interactions between Bell's character and Whitney will also be hilarious. That being said, I have to say that I'm still really disappointed that Maulik Pancholy won't be returning for Whitney's second season. When Whitney first started, Neal wasn't a very interesting character, if you ask me. He was basically just Lily's boyfriend for the most part, but Neal became a very interesting character after he came out as bisexual in episode 1x20 "G-Word". Personally, I think it was a big mistake to write Neal off the show, because there aren't really any male bisexual characters on TV. The writers of Whitney had an excellent opportunity to do something that not very many TV shows have done, which is to portray bisexuality from a guy's point of view. It's a shame that the writers have decided to not explore that further with the character Neal.
Finally, I know Whitney has received a lot of very harsh criticism from both the critics and the viewers, and I'll be the first to admit that it was the farthest thing from being the best TV show in the world when it started, but I don't think it wasn't nearly as bad as a lot of people were making it out to be. The show definitely got a lot better as the season continued. I think Whitney's definitely worth at least checking out even if you watched it when it first started and you didn't like it, because the show really has improved.
