90210: Cancelled—Five-Year Run on The CW to End in May-TVLine

90210 Cancelled Series Finale in May

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, The CW network executives have decided to cancel 90210 after five seasons. The series finale, which will likely include a retrospective, is scheduled to air on Monday, May 13. Here's an excerpt from the article:

Less-than-zippy ratings led to The CW’s call, as 90210 this season alone slid from a million viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (with its opener) to, at last tally, under 600,000 viewers and a 0.3, shedding a significant chunk of its Carrie Diaries lead-in.

90210, a continuation of the 10-season cultural phenom Beverly Hills, 90210, launched to much fanfare in 2008 — with Jennie Garth among the original cast members who, for a time, reprised their roles in the new incarnation.

My thoughts: Given how bad the ratings for 90210 have been this season, I'm not one bit surprised that the network has decided to end the show this year. Honestly, I would have been shocked if 90210 had been renewed for sixth and final season, even if it was just a short final season like Gossip Girl got. I still love 90210, but my interest in the show has definitely dwindled a little bit this season, which is why I haven't written reviews for the show in a while. There are simply a lot of other TV shows that I'm much more invested in these days, such as Dallas and New Girl, which is why I've been choosing to focus on them, as well as other shows lately. That being said, I hope this announcement will give the writers enough time to give the show a decent ending.
