The CW picks up every new show for a full season | Inside TV

According to Entertainment Weekly's James Hibberd, The Originals, The Tomorrow and Reign have each been picked up for a full season of 22 episodes by The CW. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some scoop on this news and the remaining mid-season TV shows that have yet to air:

The Originals was a given. The Vampire Diaries spin-off has averaged 2.7 million viewers and a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 and The CW needs to keep at least one show for a full season. With its solid-ishy performance, the drama was clearly headed toward a pickup.

The Tomorrow People (2.4 million, 0.9) and Reign (2.1 million, 0.8) felt like one might survive while the other might not. Not because either are doing really well, exactly, but because The CW has limited inventory to play with (The CW has Twilight-but-with-aliens-romance Star-Crossed and Lost-meets-Avatar-meets-Lord of the Flies drama The 100 in the pipeline). Specifically, many in the industry expected Reign to get beheaded.

Explained CW president Mark Pedowitz: “In just a few seasons, we have built a much stronger primetime schedule. Our on-air ratings are up year to year, and our digital viewing continues to grow exponentially. We’re excited about the creative momentum the producers have established for all three of our new series, and now our fans will have the chance to see the full stories unfold for them this season. With the additional episodes ordered, plus two new dramas and new reality for midseason, we’ll be able to continue our commitment to adding more original programming all year long.”

My thoughts: I have to say that I'm thrilled that The Originals and The Tomorrow People have both been picked up for a full season. Although, I have to admit that I haven't watch either of those shows, or Reign yet. Now that I know that both The Originals and The Tomorrow People will be around for a full season, I'll definitely check The Tomorrow People out since I think it looks like a really good show, and that's one show that I'm really excited about. I'll probably wait a while before I start watching The Originals, because I'm currently in the process of slowly getting caught up on watching The Vampire Diaries. I haven't gotten to the point in the series where Klaus and the other characters on The Originals were first introduced on The Vampire Diaries yet.

As for Reign being picked up for a full season, I haven't watched that show yet, and I'm not all that interested in watching it at this point. I'm happy for the show's fans that Reign has been picked up for a full season though. That being said, the fact that The CW has picked up every one of their new shows for a full season really makes me wonder what they are going to do with their mid-season replacement shows now, such as Star-Crossed and The 100, which I've really been looking forward to watching. Hopefully, this news doesn't mean that they'll both be treated poorly when they do finally premiere.
