It certainly does! In fact, I’m happy to share that it was one of the few shows I didn’t have to MAKE my family watch while I was home for the holidays (a.k.a.: a miracle). That said, when I caught up with Andy Samberg, I asked him what he thought about the show’s long-term prospects and whether or not he saw it eventually adopting Parks and Recreation-style long-term arcs. “I think, particularly on a big network like Fox, the mission statement in the beginning is you need to make the first bundle of shows kind of similar because you never know when someone’s going to jump in,” he said. “Obviously you want to change it up as much as you can, but you also want to really nail home some dynamics. And the thing we started on was Jake and Holt and their friction. But definitely expanding it is something everyone has been talking about and excited about.” He added that his confidence in executive producers Dan Goor and Mike Schur, both of Parks, leaves him without any worries about the show’s creative direction. “Any time you have [Schur and Goor] at the head of a show, you know that when they choose to do it, it’s going to be awesome and interesting and real and vulnerable and funny,” he says.
