Here's some scoop on The Goldbergs from TVGuide's Adam Bryant and Natalie Abrams' Mega Buzz column, which was posted on 12/17/13.

ADAM: You heard about The Goonies episode, right? After that, they will take on another '80s classic, When Harry Met Sally..., with an episode that will follow Adam's friendship with a girl. Yes, it's also inspired by creator Adam F. Goldberg's childhood. "The When Harry Met Sally... episode about me and one of my best friends who is godmother to my kids," he tells TVGuide.com. "She was a girl and everyone was like, 'You two are hooking up,' but we were like brother and sister. ... It's like that moment -- can men and women be friends? -- played out with 12-year-old kids." Something tells us that diner scene won't be in it.
