According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, the CW has issued early season 2 renewals to freshman dramas The Originals and Reign. Additionally, the CW has also issued early renewals to Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and Arrow for a tenth, sixth and third season respectively. Here's an excerpt from the original article, which includes a statement from the president of the CW network Mark Pedowitz.
“This season we’ve had great success with our new hit series The Originals paired with Supernatural, giving us our best Tuesday nights in years,” said CW prez Mark Pedowitz in a statement. “The Vampire Diaries is No. 2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with Arrow continuing to gain among young men, and Reign growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I’m very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series, and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season.”

My thoughts: Out of all these renewals, the only one that's mildly surprising to me is the fact that Reign has been renewed for a second season. If any of you have been reading the comments for the Thursday night ratings on the website TV by the Numbers, Reigns chances for renewal has been something that's been talked about quite a bit for the past several months. For the record, I've never watched Reign, but I'm happy for the people who are fans of the show that it has been renewed for a second season. I also don't watch Supernatural, but I'm also happy for the fans of the show that it will be back for a tenth season. Being a huge fan of Arrow, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, I'm thrilled that they have all been renewed for next season. While I wasn't the least bit worried about their chances for renewal, it's always nice to have official confirmation that they've been renewed.
