According to E! Online's Chris Harnick, NBC has renewed the following five dramas for the 2015-2016 season: The Blacklist (Season 3), Chicago Fire (Season 4), Chicago PD (Season 3), Grimm (Season 5) and Law & Order: SVU (Season 17).

Here's an excerpt from the article, which includes a statement from the president of NBC Entertainment, Jennifer Salke:

"The creative vision of the executive producers who've guided these outstanding dramas has been nothing short of incredible," Jennifer Salke, president of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. "We're highly appreciative of the passion they bring to their shows at every step of the creative process and we're thrilled to reward that dedication with these renewals."

Law & Order: SVU is the longest-running drama on TV. The show is averaging a 2.5 rating in the key 18-49 demographic and 9.5 million viewers, up 10 percent when compared to last season. Last season the renewal for SVU came down to the wire as negotiations between the network and producers dragged on. Series star Mariska Hargitay, who has been with the show since the start, will return. "Yes, Mariska will be around for #SVU17," executive producer Warren Leight tweeted. "How could she not?" Hargitay responded to Leight's tweet and said, "Oh I'll be there...with bells on!"

The Blacklist, which just moved to Thursdays at 9 p.m., is averaging a 5.1 rating and 17.4 million viewers. Chicago Fire has an average rating of 2.8 and 10.1 million viewers and Chicago PD has a 2.3 average rating and 9.4 million viewers. NBC is also looking to add a third spinoff, Chicago Medical, to the suite of Chicago-set dramas.

Grimm has averaged a 2.1 rating and 7.2 million viewers, an impressive feat for a Friday series.

My thoughts: Let me start out by saying that NBC renewing these five shows doesn't come as a surprise to me at all since they've all continued to do well for the network. That being said, with the exception of Law & Order: SVU, I watch all of these shows, and I'm a huge fan of all of them. I'm definitely very excited about this news. I have to admit that a part of me still can't believe that Grimm will be in its fifth season next season. I remember back before Grimm premiered that I was half expecting it to be D.O.A. given the fact that the show seemed to have so many things working against it. After all, it had Chuck for a lead-in, the series premiere aired against game 7 of the World Series, and the show airs on Friday nights. I was very surprised when the series premiere got pretty good ratings for a TV show airing on a Friday night, but even then I was still worried for the first part of Grimm's first season that the show would end up getting canceled. I'm so glad that I was wrong and that Grimm has continued to do well for NBC, because I'm a huge fan of the show. While I do still like Once Upon a Time quite a bit, I definitely love Grimm more these days.

I think that Chicago Fire and Chicago PD are both great shows, so I'm really glad that they have both continued to do well too. I'm also very excited to see how the potential Chicago Medical spinoff turns out, because that sounds really interesting. The Blacklist is definitely one of my top favorite TV shows, so I'm really glad that it has done so well. All in all, this news definitely doesn't come as a surprise to me at all, but I'm still very happy to have each of these shows be officially renewed now. :)
