We will find out much more about what actually happened that night soon. “The true details of what happened that night are sort of always a little muddy, as they often are in these actual situations in life, which is incredibly unfortunate,” Matt McGorry says. “Individual perception and intoxication make things a very complicated issue. Unlike murder, there’s no such thing as justifiable rape. It’s very tricky because we also live in a society that tends to not believe the victim and tends to side with the aggressor or at least give them the benefit of the doubt, and that makes for a very complicated story line.” More complicated is what this means for Asher’s relationship with Bonnie, a survivor of assault. “There’s a lot they have to navigate through and try to figure out how to proceed, if they even want to proceed, and if Bonnie can really forgive him,” he adds.
