Surely the town will think it’s a random act of violence, bolstered by the recent scapegoating of the Southside Serpents, but I personally think there’s something more nefarious going on — especially since Fred was shot after he refused the Lodges’ buyout, and Jughead was quick to point out that this was anything but random. “That line from Jughead’s V.O. absolutely alludes to the criminal element that we’re doing next season,” EP Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says. “I will say that, hopefully, it’s the exact opposite of what you’re thinking.”
