Donna will “definitely play a role” in helping Quentin cope with Laurel’s death while also avoiding the bottle, says showrunner Wendy Mericle. “We’ve seen him go off the wagon in the past, and what we really wanted to explore was: How would he want to honor his daughter’s legacy? That will be the question he has to ask himself and answer in the next few episodes.”

Will Felicity’s father make another appearance on Arrow before the season is over? —Cindy
Yes, Everwood alum Tom Amendes will reprise his role as Noah Kuttler aka The Calculator in a couple episodes as Season 4 winds down.

With Charlotte Ross returning to Arrow soon, can you tell us anything about her relationship with Oliver, Felicity, and if she’ll finally meet Quentin Lance? –Tina
Stephen Amell shared at the set last week that Oliver has formed a bond with Mama Smoak, especially since he was living the suburban life with her daughter Felicity. “I had always imagined that Oliver in his nice, easy-going state would have a dialogue with Donna Smoak, which was proven correct and leads to some funny moments,” he said. “The dynamic between the two of them is excellent.” As for any possible meeting of Donna and Quentin, Paul Blackthorne joked as he came away from filming the fall finale, “Do I have lipstick on my cheek? [Then again] it’s a Christmas episode, so of course, everybody’s kissing everybody.” Hmmm.

When will Arrow fans learn about Felicity’s father? –Kyle
Not anytime especially soon, it sounds like. “I don’t know anything about my dad,” Emily Bett Rickards said on set last week, “except that he’s probably going to be a villain and he’s rich and that he comes in this season.”

We’re actually going to see a whole new side to Felicity in the episode. “She hadn’t found who she was yet,” Emily Bett Rickards says. “We get to see her in her college years, so she hadn’t stepped into the Felicity we see now. She was still trying to hide.” In present day, Felicity’s mom (Charlotte Ross) will appear at pretty much the worst time possible. “Her mom proves to be a distraction,” Rickards adds. “Keeping secrets becomes a burden for her in that episode.”

Arrow: Scoop on episode 3x05 "The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak" from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Arrow from this week's (Posted on 9/2/14) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: I’ve heard that Arrow is doing a Felicity-centric flashback episode called “Oracle.” I know it’ll touch on her time at MIT and casting news says her mom becomes a factor, but I’d like to know more about how Oracle ties into it. Can you dig up any teases? –Katie H.
Ausiello: For starters, the episode was recently retitled “The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak,” so I’d take a wait-and-see approach as to how much DC Comics’ famous Oracle figures in at this point. As for casting NYPD Blue’s Charlotte Ross as Mama Smoak, Donna, “This is our first deep dive into Felicity’s character, so we knew we wanted to meet one of the parents,” showrunner Marc Guggenheim explains. “We felt both parents would be overload, and one might pull focus from the other.”
