Liz Keen’s quest for answers will come to a head as the season comes to a close. “The storyline about the woman who she has found in this photograph, who Red has confirmed is her mother, takes us not only forward in terms of who Liz is, but it’s going to take us back to the night of the fire, to what happened in this period of time that has somehow been lifted or erased from her memory somehow,” EP Jon Bokenkamp says. “We are, in the last few episodes, going to be going back to that critical night in which so much of the story has its roots. Yes, we’re going to have a big discovery. The storyline of Liz and her mother and how she’s connected to Red is going to be at the heart of our finale.”

It sounds like that’s when he’ll conveniently come back into her life. “Tom killed that guy and Liz was there,” executive producer John Eisendrath says. “The residual effect of that is going to come back and be something that will haunt both of them, and in fact, might put Liz in some jeopardy and require Tom to decide whether or not he’s going to assist in helping Liz get out of the trouble that he, in many ways, put her in.”

Ausiello: Regarding that gigantic cliffhanger in November’s fall finale — How do Tom and Red know each other?! — series creator Jon Bokenkamp says that burning question will be answered. Eventually. “Tom clearly has some sort of past that Liz is not aware of, that involves Red,” the EP confirms. “We will continue to tell that story. We don’t dive right into it in the Super Bowl episode, but that does start to bubble up later in the back half of the season.”
