Question: I really enjoyed USA’s Political Animals. What are the odds of it getting a second season? —Scott
Ausiello: My man in Vegas puts them at 40/60. My man in Jersey, meanwhile, is ready to make trouble for the folks at USA if it gets cancelled.

Political Animals: Scoop on the season finale from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop Political Animals from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich's weekly column Matt's Inside Line for the week of 8/17/12.

Political Animals | This Sunday marks the season finale of USA network’s “limited summer event” series, and wow, a lot happens in the craftily plotted hour. Since the episode title is “Resignation Day,” it’s no spoiler to say that Elaine alerts President Garcetti to her intention — and POTUS reacts to the FYI in a way that surprises not just her and us, but also manages to stun ex-prez Bud Hammond. Elsewhere, Doug declares what he believes to be the end of his backroom/bedroom deal with Susan Berg, though the ripple effects of his latest leak prove quite detrimental to at least one person; fiancée Anne will think she is seizing control of an amok sitch, only to realize she can never act outside of the Hammond family vacuum; and every time you think you know what (any possible) Season 2 will be about, you’ll discover you are wrong. Mr. Berlanti knows how to line up his dominoes, for sure.

Political Animals: Scoop on the series/season finale from Zap2it's Carina Adly MacKenzie

Here's some scoop on Political Animals from Carina Adly MacKenzie's Monday Kickstart column for the week of 8/13/12.

"Political Animals": In the series (season?) finale, a bombshell turn of events pits Secretary Barrish at odds with Vice President Collier and leaves viewers with a great "Two Cathedrals"-type cliffhanger. Here's hoping the miniseries is brought back next year for another go.

Political Animals: Scoop on episode 5 "16 Hours" from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Political Animals from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich's weekly column Matt's Inside Line for the week of 8/2/12.

Political Animals | Speaking of relationships worth exploring, fans of this USA Network series soon will how journalist Susan Berg gets on with her mother, Barbara, played by Fringe‘s Blair Brown. In a word (or two), Carla Gugino calls the dynamic “very complicated,” stemming from the fact that Barbara long ago gave up her career as a doctor to play parent. “Susan has always rebelled against that, as children tend to do. And I think that’s one of the reasons she emulated Elaine.” Susan’s deep-seated regard for the onetime First Lady ultimately was turned on its ear as she famously exposed the White House marriage’s many sordid flaws. “When Elaine actually didn’t leave Bud, it really threw Susan,” Gugino says, “in terms of who she thought this woman was.” Brown shows up in the penultimate episode, airing Aug. 12.

Political Animals: Doug related scoop from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Political Animals from this week's (Posted on 7/17/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Do you have any scoop on Political Animals, especially about either of the brothers? —Craig
Ausiello: If you, as I/some did, came away from the premiere worrying that James Wolk’s character was a bit blah, count on that changing big-time. “Let’s just put it this way: The goody two-shoes that you see [in the pilot] is not going to remain a goody two-shoes,” Wolk assured us with a wink. “Things are going to get a little wild, and all of the characters are going to be kind of tarnished — which is what we want.” And how! (Hmm, I wonder if this has to do with engaged Doug getting chummy with Carla Gugino’s character in the promos…?)

Political Animals: Scoop on the series premiere from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Political Animals from this week's (Posted on 7/10/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Last week, you tweeted that the USA Network’s Political Animals premiere was even better than you thought it would be. Care to expand on that thought? I’m really intrigued – can’t wait to see it Sunday! – Amy
Ausiello: I can tell you that you won’t be disappointed, that Sigourney Weaver’s secretary of state character sleeps with someone you don’t expect her to, that all of the main characters are keeping some kind of secret and that I was pleasantly surprised by a reveal in the last few minutes of the episode. That should hold you for the rest of the week.
