Question: What happened to Severide’s wife on Chicago Fire? —Bessie
Ausiello: She’s fled the scene, although executive producer Matt Olmstead notes that the pair remain married despite having gone their separate ways. “In the long tradition of Severide and his choices, it’s one of those things where you leave it behind and don’t worry about it,” the EP explains. “But those can come back and bite you. Way down the road, if he ever did want to get married, he’d have to go back and get the divorce he never got from Brittany.” As for whether Serinda Swan will at some point pop back in, Olmstead says he’d love to bring back the actress, “but there’s no plans right now.”

Question: I love Chicago Fire‘s Dawson and Casey. Please tell me they are going to get back together.  This is my birthday wish (which is in a few weeks). —Noel
Ausiello: Apologies for the sucky birthday present, but things aren’t looking good for those two crazy kids — mostly because Casey is going to have a little fling “with someone who may have a connection to a fellow firefighter, which he didn’t know about,” executive producer Matt Olmstead teases.

Chicago Fire: Scoop on the future of Severide's love life from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Chicago Fire from this week's (Posted on 9/30/14) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Any Chicago Fire spoilers? —Allyson
Ausiello: Look for Severide to jump into a seemingly “impetuous and ill-advised” romance with a new bombshell named Brittany (played by Graceland‘s Serinda Swan), previews showrunner Matt Olmstead. “Everybody’s looking at them sideways like, ‘Where’d this girl come from?'” As the EP notes, “It’s another extension of Severide [grabbing] the next distraction to keep him from dealing with the Shay of it all. The secret, which is ultimately revealed, is that [Britt] has also run away from a tragedy in her life.” Ultimately, the relationship will allow Severide “to deal with what happened to Shay and put two feet on the ground.” (Programming note: Swan makes her Chi Fire debut on Oct. 28.)

If you’re familiar with Serinda Swan’s extracurricular endeavors, you can appreciate how much the following Season 2 storyline means to her. “Last season, I pitched to the writers a story on human trafficking, because that’s something that I’m very passionate about and I fight a lot on my own time — and they took it. We have a storyline on human trafficking going on,” she shares. “So I’m excited for Paige to bring that story into people’s homes in a way that raises questions.”

Only because you said please! We recently caught up with the lovely Serinda Swan and discovered that the actress actually had a hand in shaping one of the stories for this season. "I actually pitched an idea to the creator and writers this year to deal with human trafficking and sex trafficking because it's such a huge problem and the DEA actually deals with it a lot," Swan told us last week at the NBCUniversal Cable Upfronts. "I pitched it last year and they took it, and we actually do a whole storyline on human trafficking, which is obviously very prevalent as we look at Nigeria right now. To be able to have the duality of entertainment and also information and be able to affect through a storyline maybe piquing somebody's interest or something like that, that's what I'm excited for people to see."
