We’re going to find out whether Ryan can have a life outside of his obsession. “We’re driving towards a pretty spectacular resolution on that question of: Am I allowed to be happy?” executive producer Alexi Hawley says. Unfortunately, Theo isn’t the only one who could stand in the way of that. “Annet Mehendru’s character does come at the end of the season as the face of a new evil, which will challenge Ryan even more.”

No, that’s not wrong at all. *Backs away slowly* But speaking of your favorite person, we’re going to soon meet his sister, played by Megalyn Echikunwoke, who could be his ultimate downfall. “We realize Theo isn’t completely impenetrable,” executive producer Alexi Hawley says. “That vulnerability, by the end of the season, is going to be dangerous for him.  She is connected to Theo’s childhood and she’s the one person who he cares about. What it does is allow us to see another side of Theo and it also allows us to explore his origins.”

Next week's episode features one of the scariest, most disturbing scenarios we've ever seen on a TV show...and Fox's serial killer thriller doesn't even show the scene. It just paints a picture for you in your mind, using sounds and the power of suggestion, and even though you don't actually see any violence, it's going to give you nightmares. It's as brilliant as much as it's terrifying. You've been warned!

The premiere alone feels like a whole new era is dawning on the Fox serial killer thriller, from new love interests to new threats plaguing the city. But at least Ryan Hardy and Mike Weston's bromance is something we can all count on, as something—or rather, someone—from their past returns for revenge and to expose the truth about a secret they've been keeping from everyone. Only time will tell if The Following will be better than last season, but we can confirm that it's darker, more twisted, frightening and nightmare-inducing as ever…watch this one with the lights on, people.

Most simply said, out of sight is not out of mind when it comes to those who put the elusive killer behind bars last season. “What I love about this season (premiering March 2) is that the Joe Carroll of it all is behind us,” Shawn Ashmore says, “and yet he’s still so interwoven emotionally where these characters are. He’s always sort of with us, which is nice.”
