Although Scorpion EP Nick Santora promises that the Walter/Paige dynamic will “hit an apex” in the season’s final three episodes, this week’s installment will drive a wedge between them first. Teases EP Nick Wootton, “It’s revealed to Walter what happened in Episode 3, which is that he said he loved her, and she said it back” — and Walter’s initial reaction will have very negative ramifications for Paige. “This has been a secret that has been kept throughout the entire season,” Wootton tells us. “It is emotionally very complicated for Walter. Paige has known what he hasn’t known all along.”

Some of the people keep their sanity, but some of us kind of go bananas.” I can reveal that Cabe’s fears have to do with the fact that he’s dating a younger woman (Reiko Aylesworth). Ausiello: Mum is the word on the “Waige” sitch, but Mom aka Veronica (played by Lea Thompson) will definitely be around as the CBS drama heads into 2017, following a short break after its Dec. 19 outing. And while Veronica’s grifter skills may bother Paige, her unique skill set will help the team in a few unconventional situations.

Just as the arrival of Paige’s mother will shed new light on her, so too will a trip to Ireland for Walter. “You get to see the relationships with some of his old neighbors growing up and people who never really liked him or were jealous of him,” Katharine McPhee says, with Elyes Gabel adding: “It’s going back to the base of why he changed and what made him, which will hopefully enable you to understand him a little bit more.”

Actually, Happy and Toby getting together may help push Walter and Paige in the right direction. “I think it puts a lot of pressure on [Walter],” Eddie Kaye Thomas tells me. “I imagine it’s like an awkward double date where one couple can’t stop making out and they’re all over each other, and the other couple likes each other, but no one has made the first move yet. It creates awkwardness and brings up what obviously should be happening. I don’t think it’s just the audience at home watching it, everybody working at Scorpion sees how into each other they are. It’ll turn up the heat under Walter a little bit.”

Mrs. O’Brien is also quick to remind her future daughter-in-law that #Walter is an #emotionalhotmess so, um, #thanksfornothingmom, #amiright?! (Toldja it was annoying).

But wait, there’s a catch! The hottie in question is later suspected of planting a worm in a security system Walter is designing. In other words, she probably was just pretending to be interested in him. So it’s cool if you wanna tell Paige.
