Happy Endings is spinning a tale that could result in Dave and Penny being linked for life — as siblings!

Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that ABC’s sophomore comedy has tapped acting vet Michael McKean to play Dave’s dad.

And now for the ingenious twist: The Ross family patriarch will be accompanied by the new woman in his life… Penny’s mother, played by the returning Megan Mullally!

That is a pretty ingenious twist, yes? And the fact that the plot gives us the first-ever onscreen pairing of comic pros McKean and Mullally (save for an episode of Primetime Glick) is icing on the cake.

The episode is slated to go before the cameras next week and will air in early ’12.
