We know the trio will be traveling to Nazi Germany in episode 4 and encountering James Bond author Ian Fleming (Sean Maguire), but the hour won’t only be referencing 007 films. EP Shawn Ryan says they also drew inspiration from Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, specifically that scene with Brad Pitt stumbling over his rudimentary Italian. Lucy, despite knowing practically every historical detail, will face a similar obstacle. “She doesn’t speak German,” Ryan says. “Just because Lucy is a great historian doesn’t mean it’s easy to walk with Ian Fleming into this Nazi party… There are definitely some traces of Inglourious Basterds in this episode, and there may be an homage or two to it, without a doubt.”
