She’s sticking around, as I mentioned in my postmortem. However, since the show is scheduled to go back into production around the time she’s due, you may not see her when the show returns. Revealing Cook’s pregnancy in the finale “helps us answer why she’s likely not in the first episode or so,” says EP Erica Messer. “We laid the groundwork for it, and then we can remind everybody in the premiere that she’s on maternity leave.”

Question: I’ve been really intrigued by the interaction between Criminal Minds‘ Reid and JJ this season. Is that going to lead to any dramatic moments, particularly concerning JJ’s secret/past? Appreciate any scoop you can give on that topic! –Angela
Ausiello: We spoke with A.J. Cook just as she was about to start shooting the milestone Episode 200, which will shed light on JJ’s secret, and she said it is no less that an “action-packed doozie… basically a mini action movie.” Storyline-wise, she shared, “it’s going to explain what JJ was up to when she went away during Season 6, it’s going to explain this weird relationship she has with the new section chief (played by Esai Morales), and it will explain the things that have happened in her life that have made her perhaps a little bit tougher than she used to be.” As for the JJ/Reid interaction you’ve noticed, Cook said that as the (new) flashbacks are unfurled, you’ll see that “it’s all connected” to the main characters. “JJ has a connection through that storyline with everyone, and the writers are brilliant in how they went back and connected all the dots.”

I know that’s the easy conclusion to jump to, but his mentioning of a “case still being open” steered me away from it. For now. But frankly, we’re meant to be puzzled. Coming out of this week’s episode, “People are going to be a little confused as to what exactly their relationship is — and the great thing about it is we really don’t answer any questions,” says A.J. Cook. “We just let it hang there, for a while. But I hope people stick with it, because it’s a beautiful thing.”

Criminal Minds | The matter of this season’s big bad — a serial killer replicating the MOs of captured unsubs — will soon be revisited. And considering how collectively smart the BAU team is, don’t expect this stealthy stalker to go unnoticed for too much longer. “I think you’ll see that it gets put together pretty quickly,” Joe Mantegna tells me. “And it’s going to be something that I think the fans will appreciate because it gives you that other impetus of like, ‘OK. Now where are we going with this thing?’” Also on the horizon at the CBS crime drama is what A.J. Cook calls a “really big JJ episode,” directed by Thomas Gibson. “I think that after we got to see her kick some serious ass in the season finale, they were like, ‘Oh, we didn’t know you were good at that’ — so we’re going to see her kick a little more ass,” Cook reveals. “We’re also going to see her do something we’ve never seen her do before that may get her into trouble.”

Criminal Minds: Star Paget Brewster Leaving-TVLine

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Paget Brewster is leaving Criminal Minds at the end of the season to pursue other projects. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details from Brewster herself regarding her reasons for leaving the show at the end of the season:



“After six wonderful years playing Emily Prentiss, I have decided it’s time for me to move on,” Brewster (whose Minds’ deal expires in May) said in a statement to our sister site, Deadline.com. “As much as I will miss my Criminal Minds family, I am excited about the future and other opportunities.”

Per Deadline, Brewster’s decision to leave came after CBS and ABC Studios denied a request she made to enter pilot season with the hope of landing another half-hour comedy project. Last year she was cast in NBC’s My Life as an Experiment, which did not get picked up to series — paving the way for her to return to Minds this season (something Brewster was not entirely happy about). ”I had another year on my contract that I didn’t know about,” she recently told TVGuide.com, “so I had to come back! I said, ‘Hey, I kinda want an apology and maybe a raise.’ And they were like, ‘No, we’ll sue you!’ The whole thing was, unfortunately, a mess. It was dumb.”



In the article Michael Ausiello also mentions that Thomas Gibson, Joe Mantegna, Shemar Moore and A.J. Cook, have already signed new deals for a potential Season 8.

My thoughts: I'll definitely miss Paget Brewster next season, because I do like her character. However, Brewster leaving isn't the end of the world to me because Hotch, Dr. Spencer Reid, Garcia and Morgan are my favorite characters. If one of them left the show, I'd be really sad.

TVLINE | Erica said she doesn’t wish last season’s rash of transitions on any show, but that when all was said and done it gave Criminal Minds a fresh start, seven seasons in. Do you agree with that?
Oh, 110 percent. And particularly for me, because I feel like there was a rebirth of JJ, and it gave us the creative license to maybe change a couple things about her and make her a little richer a character. All of a sudden it was a blank canvas where we could do what we wanted and breathe new life into the show. Everyone was excited that everyone was back together again [for the season premiere], and that’s been a lot of fun for us to play.
