Here's some scoop on New Girl from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat column, which was posted on 9/16/14.

Lauren D. in Albany, N.Y.: Got any scoop on what kind of shenanigans the New Girl gang will be up to this season?
"This is the first season really when everyone's single," Hannah Simone says of the gang in season four. "Everybody is in a new kind of phase of their lives." While for some that means new jobs (Winston's becoming a cop! Cece isn't a model anymore!), for Coach it means a whole lot of dating. "I'm a bachelor," Damon Wayans Jr. spills. "I'm kind of living up to the meaning of that, getting a lot of tail."

New Girl: Scoop on an upcoming vacation from TVGuide's Natalie Abrams

Here's some scoop on New Girl from TVGuide's Natalie Abrams' Mega Buzz column, which was posted on 4/15/14.

Should I take it as good news that Nick and Jess are going on a cruise together on New Girl? — Micah
Unfortunately, I hear the ex-lovers booked the romantic (and non-refundable) getaway before their breakup. (However, they find a loophole that allows them bring the rest of the gang along.) So, no, you shouldn't expect Nick and Jess to rekindle their romance. To the contrary, I hear next season will explore whether they can even still live together. Gulp!

All I am at liberty to tell you is that this season’s final three episodes – airing April 15, April 29 and May 6 — will chronicle with the fallout of the break-up. Next Tuesday, for example, Jess and Nick go to tell the others about their split the morning after, but get derailed when Winston passes his police academy exam and they don’t want to ruin his special day.

Ausiello: Well, I can confirm that they wake up in bed with four other people in the March 25 episode, although that may have something to do with the new version of True American that they partook in the night before. Scroll down for an exclusive first look at the morning after! (Fun fact, this is the same episode that features a guest turn by a certain True Detective beauty.)

New Girl: Scoop on the future of Cece and Coach's relationship from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos

Here's some scoop on New Girl from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat column, which was posted on 11/22/13.

Amy: I kind of loved Cece and Coach together on New Girl! Will they continue to date?
Well, since Damon Wayans Jr. is sticking around all season (Huzzah!), you would assume so, right? Creator Liz Meriwether, however, isn't so sure. "I'm not sure if the Cece-Coach relationship is going to go forward. I think it might have just been this one date that they go on," she says. "I think that Cece is just wanting to kind of like get back out there and go on a date with a really hot guy, so I think that's kind of what is going on in her head. "

New Girl: Scoop on the relationship between Winston and Coach from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos

Here's some scoop on New Girl from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat column, which was posted on 11/15/13.

Reese: Curious to know about the Winston-Coach dynamic on New Girl now that Damon Wayans Jr. is back for the long haul. Anything you can tell me?
Lamorne Morris told us during our set visit that Coach and Winston aren't going to be BFF'ing up in the loft anytime soon. "Winston has this inner jealousy I feel with Coach, because when he comes back into the loft he's more like the dominant one and he's up to his Coach ways of, 'We're going to do this', and 'We're going to do that!'", Morris said. "And he makes fun of Winston because there's a part of Winston that only Coach knows about." Intriguing...what could that secret be?

New Girl: Damon Wayans Jr. Extends Season 3 Deal-TVLine

New Girl Season 3

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Damon Wayans Jr. has finalized a new deal with New Girl to continue appearing on the show for the remainder of season 3. Wayans initially signed a four-episode deal with the show. Here's an excerpt from the article:

Technically speaking, Wayans will continue to receive the Heather Locklear treatment and be billed as a “special guest star.”

As previously reported, the Happy Endings alum is currently developing a new comedy project with Fox to be directed by Modern Family co-executive producer Jason Winer and written by Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne, the showrunners from FX’s canine comedy Wilfred. Titled Man/Child, the potential series is about a pair of single dads who become roommates and struggle to find the balance between being responsible parents and debaucherous bachelors.

My thoughts: I'm definitely very excited about the fact that Damon Wayans Jr. will be sticking with New Girl for the rest of season 3, because I loved him on Happy Endings. It's really nice to see that Wayans and the rest of the cast of Happy Endings are finding decent acting jobs since the show's cancellation. I'll admit that Coach was probably my least favorite character in the pilot, mainly because I thought that the character was too whacky and over-the-top compared to the rest of the characters on the show. However, I personally am glad that the writers mellowed Coach out a little bit in terms of how they wrote the character in the episode "Coach". It definitely made Coach a lot more likable in my opinion. That being said, it's definitely great to have Damon Wayans Jr. on the show again, and I can't wait to see what kind of storylines that the writers are planning for Coach now that he'll be sticking around for the rest of the season.

New Girl: Jess, Nick, Cece and Coach related scoop from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on New Girl from this week's (Posted on 11/5/13) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: A popular ‘Net theory is that the madness on this week’s New Girl (including the return of Coach and the arrival of Taye Diggs) will lead to Nick and Jess saying “I love you” for the first time. Is the ‘Net on to something? —Robert
Ausiello: Like most popular ‘Net theories, that one’s wrong with a capital ONG. In fact, the L-word won’t come out of either of their mouths anytime soon, I’m told. In other New-ish news, now that you’ve had a few days to let it sink in, how are y’all feeling about a Cece-Coach romance?

New Girl: Spoilers on season 3 from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez

Here's some scoop on season 3 of New Girl that Zooey Deschanel and Liz Meriwether shared with Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez.

+ Jess and Nick’s challenges as a couple will take center stage, at least in the beginning of the season.
“It’s just added a lot of great things for Zooey and Jake [Johnson] to play, and the way it changes the dynamic in the loft has been really funny,” says Meriwether of making Jess and Nick a couple. “We’ve gotten a lot of great comedy out of the struggle of having a couple as roommates, which has been really funny to write to.”

Their first struggle? In the premiere, we see Nick and Jess make the impulsive decision to head south of the border together “in the excitement of getting together,” but soon “some shenanigans ensue and they need some rescuing,” Meriwether says.

Their friends may be able to help them out in Mexico, but when it comes to their relationship, Deschanel says they’re on their own and will have to be up for the task. “I think both of them are just on the edge of breaking up the relationship by being mature. But I think that’s what’s exciting; it’s like watching a tightrope walker.”
+ Schimidt makes a decision in the premiere
Cece (Hannah Simone) or Elizabeth (Merritt Wever)? That’s the choice in front of Schmidt (Max Greenfield) as the new season begins, and the premiere will see him make a choice, says Meriwether. “I think he has a real dilemma in front of him in the premiere, and hopefully the audience will go with us for the choice he makes. I don’t know; we’ll see,” she says. But will his pick be a surprise? “I think it is,” Meriwether says. “I think it’ll be a little bit a surprise.” For the record, Simone isn’t going anywhere, and Nurse Jackie‘s Wever is set to appear in three episodes. (Should we read into that?)

+ Speaking of Schmidt…
He’s not happy with Nick and Jess being in a couple. “There’ll be battles with Schmidt a good part of the year,” says Meriwether. “He’s actively trying to break them up, so they have to contend with that.”

+ Prepare for the return of Coach!
Yes, Damon Wayans Jr. is currently set to return in the seventh episode of the new season as Coach, a character last seen in the pilot. (Back in the first season, Wayans’ Happy Endings was renewed, preventing him from continuing on New Girl.) And Meriwether couldn’t be more thrilled. Someone who won’t be so happy? Winston (Lamorne Morris). “What I think is fun is that he’s this Alpha male character. [Other than him there] are three weirdo guy characters, and he’s going to bring this very male, confident energy to the group. How that challenges all three of the guys will be fun to watch, especially when Winston is very insecure about him coming back,” teases Meriwether.

+ Speaking of Winston…
“I think we’re having fun with Winston and him trying to find love in all the wrong places,” says Meriwether. But the difference this season is “he’s trying to embrace his weirdness and not try to be anything for any girl. What I’m trying to say is that he’s letting his freak flag fly, I guess,” says Meriwether with a laugh. “He’s learning how to be a little true to himself with women and not get so nervous about being cool. He’s still on that journey.”

+Bonus scooplets…
- Relationship issues will come their way, but Jess will also have some work problems to deal with — namely her struggle trying to fit in with her co-workers, played by Angela Kinsey and Dreama Walker. ”Jess was a nerd in high school and Nick was kind of cool, so he’s offering his advice on how to be cool,” previews Deschanel.
- Jess is getting a sister! But just don’t look for Deschanel’s real-life sister Emily Deschanel to take the part. “That would be funny, but I don’t think we’re going to be able to,” says Meriwether. “I would love to have her on the show in another way at some point — just probably “
- The loft has a new furry friend! No, none of the guys are getting a goatee … we’re talking about a cat. “Winston steals his ex-girlfriend’s cat, and the loft has a cat now named Ferguson,” says animal lover Deschanel. “It’s a really, really cute cat.”

New Girl: Scoop on Coach's return in season 3 from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on New Girl from this week's (Posted on 8/22/13) Matt's Inside Line column.

What brings Coach back to town on New Girl? –Andy
Among other reasons, Lamorne Morris surmises, “Happy Endings getting cancelled…?” But seriously, Morris says that Damon Wayans Jr.’s “homecoming” will serve up “a lot of backstory” between Coach and Winston as well as “explain why he left in the first place, and where he went.” As for how Coach’s return affects the other guys, “I think Schmidt is going to be very competitive. while Nick is going to be very happy,” Jake Johnson told me. “Nick and Coach were old friends, so it’s going to be nice for Nick. But I bet Schmidt is going to have an oodle of issues with it.”

New Girl: Scoop on Damon Wayans Jr./Coach's return in season 3 from TVGuide's Adam Bryant and Natalie Abrams

Here's some scoop on New Girl from TVGuide's Adam Bryant and Natalie Abrams' Mega Buzz column, which was posted on 8/13/13.

Do you have any scoop on Coach's return to New Girl? — Sarah
NATALIE: Yeah, what happened to Coach (Happy Endings' Damon Wayans Jr.) after he moved to Santa Monica? "[Coach] comes back into the picture at a time when the roommates are at odds with each other," executive producer Liz Meriwether tells us. "The guys are all fighting for his friendship." Well, most of the guys. "We're playing with [Winston] being really insecure about it and that he's really intimidated by Coach and having to learn to standup to Coach," she says.

New Girl: Scoop on Damon Wayans Jr./Coach's return in season 3 from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos

Here's some scoop on New Girl from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat column, which was posted on 8/13/13.

Michelle in Chicago: I seriously cannot WAIT for Coach to finally come back to the loft in New Girl!! I almost cried when I found out! Any scoop on when he'll be back?!
First of all, we're excited that you're excited, but at the risk of scaring off Damon Wayans Jr. here's some classic words of wisdom from Coach. Have you calmed down a bit? Good. Now onto the scoop: We caught up with everyone's favorite douchebag Max Greenfield and he said that we'll have to endure a few Coach-free episodes when season three kicks off in September. "He's going to come back episode five or six or somewhere in there. Yeah, Damon's the best." We couldn't agree with you more Max!

New Girl: Damon Wayans Jr. Returning as Coach in Season 3-TVLine

New Girl Season 3 Damon Wayans Jr.

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Damon Wayans Jr. is finalizing a deal to return as Coach for a major arc in season 3 of New Girl. Here's an excerpt from the article:

You’ll recall Wayans appeared in the New Girl pilot, but was forced to drop out when Happy Endings scored a surprise Season 2 renewal; Lamorne Morris’s Winston was brought in to fill the void. Endingsofficial (and extremely unfortunate) demise paved the way for Wayans’ likely return. (Fox declined to comment for this story.)

Jake Johnson, who’s currently shooting the comedy Let’s Be Cops with Wayans in Atlanta, kicked up the Coach comeback buzz last month when he told TVLine in the wake of Happy Endings ABC cancellation that he’d be thrilled to “welcome [Wayans'] back to the loft,” adding, “I would be surprised if he doesn’t come back for a while. There would be such funny episodes with the Coach seeing what’s happened in the past two years since he’s [been] gone.”

Link to the full article:‘New Girl’ Season 3: Damon Wayans Jr. Returning as Coach - TVLine

My thoughts: I have to say that I actually have mixed feelings about Damon Wayans Jr. returning to New Girl in any capacity at this point in time. On the one hand, I'm a huge fan of Damon Wayans Jr., and I especially loved him on Happy Endings. I also really liked the character Coach in the pilot. On the other hand, in retrospect I feel like it was a good move on the producers' part to replace Damon Wayans Jr. with not only a different actor, but also a different character. I say this because Coach was a very whacky character, and Jess, Nick and Schmidt are all very whacky and quirky characters as well. I've always felt like Winston/Lamorne Morris really helps balance out Jess, Nick and Schmidt's personalities, while also having a tendency to be kind of crazy at times, such as when he's trying to play pranks on people.

Hannah Simone/Cece has also helped balance out the other characters as well, but I feel like bringing Damon Wayans Jr. and the character Coach back could potentially be overkill on the show's silliness factor even though New Girl is a comedy and is supposed to silly and funny. Plus, I really felt like the show has really moved on and evolved past the point where bringing Damon Wayans Jr. and the character Coach would feel organic and not feel forced at this point in time. With all that said, I'm willing to keep an open mind regarding Damon Wayans Jr./Coach's return next season. It will definitely be interesting to see what the writers come up with for his return.

New Girl: Scoop on the possibility of Damon Wayans Jr. returning to the show from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on New Girl from this week's (Posted on 5/21/13) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: For the love of a Happy Ending, any word on whether or not USA Network will right a terrible wrong? —Tiera
Ausiello: No news is, in this case, pretty good news. Negotiations continue between Sony and USA, which tells me that the cabler remains seriously interested in giving the show a fourth season. Meanwhile, if the talks collapse — bite your tongue, Ausiello! — it’s an inevitability that Damon Wayans Jr. will find himself back on New Girl next season in some capacity. (You’ll recall Wayans appeared in the New Girl pilot, but was forced to drop out when Happy Endings earned a surprise second season; Lamorne Morris’s Winston was brought in to fill the void.) Jake Johnson, who’s currently shooting the comedy Let’s Be Cops with Wayans in Atlanta, says he’d be thrilled to “welcome [Wayans'] Coach back to the loft,” adding, “I would be surprised if he doesn’t come back for a while” should Happy Endings fail to find a new home. “There would be such funny episodes with the Coach seeing what’s happened in the past two years since he’s [been] gone.”
