Defiance: Scoop on Nolan and Irisa's forehead wounds from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Defiance from this week's (Posted on 6/22/15) Matt's Inside Line column.
Any fresh scoop on Defiance? –Craig
If you, like me, think the show has been a bit conspicuous about displaying the forehead wounds where Nolan and Irisa had been connected to that pod for several months, it’s for good reason. Grant Bowler told me that towards the end of the season, that onetime “connection” will come back into play and “lead to the best episodes Steph[anie Leonidas] and I think we’ve ever done. It’s really, really cool.”

Defiance: Welcome back, Everybody! (My thoughts on episode 3x01 “The World We Seize” & episode 3x02 “The Last Unicorns”)
Right off the bat, I have to
say that I really enjoyed the two-hour season three premiere of Defiance.
However, as you probably noticed in the title of this blog post, while this
episode was aired as a two-hour season premiere, it was really just the first
two episodes of season three aired back-to-back.
The first episode picked up
seven months after the events of the season two finale, and I have to say that
I thought the visual and special effects at the beginning of the episode were
really impressive. Nolan and Irisa, who were still in the stasis pod that they
got into at the end of the season two finale, were removed from the pod by
members of the Omec, a new alien race that was introduced in the season
premiere, and they were left stranded in a snowy area outside of Defiance.
Apparently, the Omec had long since thought to have gone extinct. Personally, I
really like the Omec for the most part so far. I think that introducing a new
alien race was a great move on the writers’ part, since I’ve always felt that
the level diversity of the different alien races on the show was somewhat
limited for a science fiction show. That being said, I’d like to go ahead and
mention that Conrad Coates who plays T’evgin reminds me a lot of Jessie
Lawrence Ferguson and the character he played in the Star Trek: The Next
Generation episode “Code of Honor”, Lutan. Honestly, I initially wondered if it
was the same actor who had played the two roles, so I decided to look on IMDB
to see if I was correct. Obviously, I was wrong, but I just thought that I
would mention the fact that I had originally thought it was Conrad Coates who
played the two roles.
We were also introduced to a
new Castithan, a man named General Rahm Tak, who’s played by Lee Tergesen. I
have to say that based on just these two episodes alone, I absolutely love
General Rahm Tak. It’s pretty obvious that Lee Tergesen is really enjoying
playing the part so far. I’m really hoping that Tergesen will be sticking
around for a while.
Nolan seemed to be under the
impression that he and Irisa could just return to Defiance like nothing had
changed after being in the stasis pod for seven months and after everything
that happened last season, which seemed pretty delusional on his part. At least
Irisa was able to recognize that she probably wasn’t going to be very popular
with the other citizens of Defiance after everything that happened last season.
Berlin definitely wasn’t happy to see Irisa again, because she blames Irisa for
Tommy’s death. That being said, I love Berlin and I thought that Anna Hopkins
did a great job of playing the part last season, so I’m thrilled to see that
she’s back for season three as a series regular. Berlin wasn’t the only person
who gave Irisa a hard time though; she was also harassed by other people
throughout the two episodes.

Defiance: Nolan and Irisa related scoop on season 3 from Entertainment Weekly's Natalie Abrams
Here's some scoop on Defiance from Entertainment Weekly's Natalie Abrams' The Spoiler Room column, which was posted on 6/5/15.
Thanks for the Defiance scoop last week. Anything else you’ve got on the new season? — Chelsea
It should come as no surprise that Nolan and Irisa come out of the events of the finale mostly unscathed, though what is shocking is the very mixed reaction the residents of Defiance have to Irisa’s return—which is both bloody and strangely lauded.

Defiance: Scoop on the season 3 premiere (Episode 3x01 "The World We Seize") from Entertainment Weekly's Natalie Abrams
Here's some scoop on Defiance from Entertainment Weekly's Natalie Abrams' The Spoiler Room column, which was posted on 5/29/15.
Do you have anything on the new season of Defiance? — Richard
The new season will kick off with a time jump that finds things looking pretty desperate in Defiance. Unfortunately, it’s about to get a lot worse as the Votanis Collective looks to take advantage of the town’s weaknesses. Led by Lee Tergesen’s General Rahm Tak, his army will make a very bloody debut.

Defiance: Scoop on the season 3 premiere from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich
Here's some scoop on Defiance from this week's (Posted on 5/26/15) Matt's Inside Line column.
Any scoop on what’s coming up for Defiance’s Tarr family this season? –Katie H.
Holy Rayetso, a tremendous amount of things happen in the two-hour season premiere (airing June 12). As you’ll recall, Datak and Stahma were searching for Alak and Christie, who had been spirited away by nutty Pilar – but what the Castithans instead find is tons of trouble in the form of Oz alum Lee Tergesen’s General Rahm Tak aka “The Beast,” a Johnny Cash-quoting marauder who has insidious plans for Defiance. Elsewhere in the epic opener, which picks up seven months later: Nolan and Irisa are rescued by a most unlikely savior; the new, purple-skinned Omec race rival only Rahm Tak as the show’s most frightful adversary yet (let’s just say they could use a good dentist); Doc Yewll remains highly quotable; and there are no fewer than two shocking deaths.

Defiance: Adds Lee Tergesen, Plus Two Others in Season 3
According to TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich, Lee Tergesen has joined the cast of Defiance for the show's upcoming third season in a major stint. Additionally, Conrad Coates and Nichole Galicia will also be appearing in season 3. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Tergesen, Coates and Galicia's roles:
Following the events of the Season 2 finale, Defiance picks back up on the eve of an impending military siege upon the titular town, which has fallen on hard times following the collapse of its mines. The citizens face further threat with the surprise arrival of the Omec, a mysterious and nearly extinct alien race of warriors marked by the decades of subjugation they imposed upon the galaxy in the years preceding the Pale Wars.
Tergesen will portray Castithan General Rahm Tak, a ruthless, arrogant leader in the Votanis Collective who sees Defiance — now free of Earth Republic oversight — a symbolic target in his pursuit of power. Rahm is a well-read, brilliant strategist who imposes his army upon the town with force.
Tergesen’s myriad prior TV credits also include Freak Show, The Americans, Longmire and Army Wives.
Coates will play T’evgin, the leader of the Omec who reluctantly carries the burden of his species’ survival on his shoulders, while Galicia has been cast as Kindzi, his fierce, beautiful and fearless daughter/second in command.

My thoughts: First off, I have to say that I'm really excited that casting news and spoilers for Defiance's third season are finally starting to be released, because I was just wondering yesterday when the producers of the show would start announcing casting news and releasing spoilers for next season. I know that some people don't like Defiance and think that it's not a very good show, but I for one really like it, even if it does have its fair share of flaws. Personally, I do think that season two was a lot better than season one though.
That being said, I'm not familiar with Lee Tergesen, Conrad Coates, or Nichole Galicia's work, so I can't comment on their acting, but I think their characters all sound very interesting, especially Tergesen's role. I'm also very excited about the fact that they are going to be introducing a new alien race in season three. That sounds like it could make things very interesting on the show, so hopefully the writers will handle that storyline development well. Honestly, season three can't come soon enough for my taste, because I've really been missing Defiance a lot lately. Maybe I'll have to watch some episodes on DVD.

Defiance: Guest-star related scoop and more on season 3 from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich
Here's some scoop on Defiance from this week's (Posted on 1/23/15) Matt's Inside Line column.
Do you have scoop on either Defiance, Dominion, Once Upon a Time, TVD or Extant? –lilslim
I choose… Curtain No. 1! For Season 3 of the Syfy drama, I can confirm that Linda Hamilton will be back as Pilar McCawley, and there will be the introduction of a new alien race. (Ugh, just when I had all the others finally figured out.)

Defiance and Dominion Renewed By SyFy
According to TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich, SyFy has renewed both Defiance and Dominion for a third and second season respectively. Both renewals are for 13 episodes, which are currently schedule to air in 2015. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some information on the ratings for both shows:
Defiance opened Season 2 with 2 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (per the fine folks at TVByTheNumbers), slipping to 1.5 mil/0.4 come finale time.
Dominion debuted in June to 2 mil/0.6, drawing 1.5 mil/0.5 with its Aug. 8 finale.

My thoughts: I'm a huge fan of Defiance, so I'm beyond thrilled that it has been renewed for a third season. Honestly, I was starting to get a little worried about the show's future when season 2 had finished airing, and SyFy still hadn't announced a season 3 renewal for the show. The fact that the season 2 finale aired August 28th really started to make me think that the show might be canceled since it's almost October. I really am happy to know now that's not the case though. As for Dominion, I never got around to watching it because the ratings for the show's first season never looked that great to me, so I didn't think that there was any point in getting into the show, only for it to be canceled. Now that it has been renewed a second season, I'm definitely going to check it out.
