Ausiello: If it can keep performing like it did on Friday – the pilot managed to hold onto most of Grimm‘s audience — I’d bet that the drama will be back next year. But no matter how long NBC may want to bleed the concept (see what I did there?), star and executive producer Jonathan Rhys Meyers warns that his alter ego probably has a shelf life – or at least, that’s how I interpret it when he says: “The thing about making something like Dracula is, you’ve got these elements of power and wealth and all this, but you still have to lose, eventually.” He adds, “Season 1 maybe, or Season 2 maybe, but [Dracula]‘s got to lose. Dracula: Drama Starring Tudors Alum Jonathan Rhys Meyers Ordered to Series by NBC-TVLine

According to TVLine's Megan Masters, NBC has ordered Dracula, a drama series based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, to series with Jonathan Rhys Meyers cast as Dracula. The first season will consist of 10 episodes. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on the upcoming TV series:



The 10-episode show centers on the iconic vampire as he relocates to London in hopes of wreaking havoc on the Victorian society that centuries ago “ruined his life.” However, his quest for revenge hits a snag when he falls for a woman who appears to be the second coming of his long-deceased wife.

“It is a timeless tale with relevant, surprising twists and turns [and] the exquisite Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the marquee role,” Universal Television Executive Vice President Bela Bajaria said Tuesday in a statement.

Based on a script by co-EP Cole Haddon, the project — which has also been picked up by U.K.’s Sky Living — will be exec-produced by Tony Krantz (24), Colin Callender (HBO Films) and Downton Abbey producers Carnival Films & Television.

Production on Dracula is slated to begin later this year.

My thoughts: This show sounds very interesting to me for several reasons. First off, I love Bram Stoker's book, Dracula, and I love pretty much anything that involves vampires. The most exciting part of this news for me personally though is definitely the fact that Jonathan Rhys Meyers will be playing Dracula. I loved him as King Henry VIII on The Tudors, and I just think he's an extremely talented actor in general. Also, this show has a lot of people involved with the project who've worked other TV shows that I think are great, so I'm optimistic that the show will be good. I can't wait to see this.
