Up All Night: Scoop from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Up All Night from this week's (Posted on 1/31/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Any idea how long Jason Lee is going to stick around on Up All Night? I love having him on my television again. —Tabitha
Ausiello: I imagine producers will want to keep him around at least long enough to meet Ava’s (Maya Rudolph) lovable, fun father, who will be introduced in a spring episode. Pops apparently has a new young family, including a wife who’s the same age (if not younger) than Ava.

Up All Night gets two more episodes from NBC-From Inside the Box-Zap2it

up-all-night-week-off.jpg"Up All Night" has already been picked up for a full season on NBC. Now that season is getting longer.

The network has asked for two more episodes of the show, which stars Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph. That brings its total for the season from 22 to 24.

"Up All Night" is moving to Thursdays after "The Office" in January, and the additional episodes will add to the number of originals available in the higher-profile timeslot. It's also another vote of confidence for the show, which has been among the few semi-bright spots for NBC so far this season.

Although its ratings are hardly world-beating -- it's averaging 6.24 million viewers and a 2.6 rating among adults 18-49 -- the show has improved on NBC's season-ago numbers in its current timeslot (8 p.m. ET Wednesdays). The series it's swapping time periods with, "Whitney," draws 5.53 million viewers and a 2.7 in the 18-49 demographic.

Wednesday's (Nov. 23) "Up All Night," meanwhile, features a second appearance by guest star Jason Lee as Ava's (Rudolph) new boyfriend, Kevin. In the clip below, he and Chris (Arnett) discuss the relationship -- and why it's important to keep the baby wipes box closed.

Jason Lee on My Name Is Earl Movie: "It's Time!"-E! Online

Jason Lee, My Name is Earl

Jason Lee isn't just romancing Maya Rudolph on NBC's Up All Night these days. He's ready to get down to business and finish that dang list Earl Hickey started so many years ago!

We hit the set of Up All Night to get scoop on what's ahead from Will Arnett, Christina Applegate and Jason (more on that later), and Jason revealed that he's been talking with My Name Is Earl boss Greg Garcia about a movie (big or teeny-tiny screen) wrapping up the story...

"I definitely see it happening," Jason told us of an Earl finale feature. "It's time! We have to finish the list which we never got to do, so it's sort of just floating out there in limbo somewhere incomplete."

My Name Is Earl (also starring Jaime Pressly) was canceled after four seasons on NBC, and the final episode last May ended with "To Be Continued..."

Jason says Earl's boss Greg Garcia (who now runs Fox's Raising Hope) is on board with making a wrap-up feature happen. "I've talked to Greg and even if we have to get a small guerrilla crew together and kind of make our own thing and put it on the internet, we definitely want a closing. Whatever we can do to sort of finish the list, I feel it in the air, it's time. A movie? Fantastic."

On Up All Night, Jason cozies up to Maya's character Ava, and Christina tells us Jason is "incomparable" and the perfect man for Ava: "He is rugged and grounded and kind and I think he is going to be able to spar with her really well."

Up All Night airs Wednesdays on NBC.
