90210: Olly Murs to perform in an upcoming episode

OLLY-MURS

According to Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez, British pop star and former contestant on the UK version of The X Factor, Olly Murs will perform on an upcoming episode of 90210. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some scoop on Murs' appearance on 90210:

In the episode, slated to air in April, Murs pops up to help Liam and Navid woo a pro-surfer. The singer will perform two songs — “Troublemaker,” his song featuring Flo Rida and “Right Place Right Time.”

While Americans may not know Murs yet, the 28-year-old has topped the charts across the pond with his singles “Dance with Me Tonight” and the aforementioned “Troublemaker.” When he spoke to EW in December, Murs acknowledge the divide between his UK success and impending introduction to crowds in the U.S. “I mean, when you come to the States, you’ve gotta start from scratch,” he said. “It’s a new start for everyone. We’ve got to showcase my talent and try to win new fans.”

My thoughts: I have to admit that I had never heard of Olly Murs until I read this article, but I'm really excited about his appearance on 90210, because I've always loved the music that they use on 90210. They've also had a lot of great musical artists perform on the show throughout 90210's run, especially this season, so I'm very confident that his music will be very good. I'm really glad that it looks like Olly Murs' appearance on the show won't be connected to Adrianna and her singing career. Adrianna for the most part isn't a very successful singer at this point in the series, and yet the writers expect the viewers to believe that big name singers like Carly Rae Jepsen and Ne-Yo would want Adrianna to be their opening act. I've always thought that was really stupid on the writers' part.

After the whole scandal with Adrianna stealing Javier's songs and trying to pass them off as her own songs in season three, I don't think that big name musical artists or anybody in the music industry for that matter would want to be associated with someone who did something like that. It also really bothers me that the writers seem to have completely dropped the idea of Adrianna trying to reinvent herself as a country singer like she was last season and she's now gone back to being a pop singer. I'm not surprised that the writers have dropped that storyline with Adrianna though. The writers for 90210 have always been very notorious for dropping storylines out of the blue with little to no explanation, but I digress. Like I said, I'm very excited to see Olly Murs perform on 90210, and I think I'll try to check out his music before his episode airs.

My thoughts: I have to say that I'm really excited to see Ne-Yo on 90210. I personally think that Ne-Yo is a great singer. Plus, since Adrianna is once again pursuing a singing career, it makes sense that the producers would have various musical artists perform on the show from time to time. I'm really looking forward to season 5 of 90210, because based on all of the spoilers and casting news that I've read, it sounds like the writers and producers have some great things planned for season 5.
