90210: Olly Murs to perform in an upcoming episode

OLLY-MURS

According to Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez, British pop star and former contestant on the UK version of The X Factor, Olly Murs will perform on an upcoming episode of 90210. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some scoop on Murs' appearance on 90210:

In the episode, slated to air in April, Murs pops up to help Liam and Navid woo a pro-surfer. The singer will perform two songs — “Troublemaker,” his song featuring Flo Rida and “Right Place Right Time.”

While Americans may not know Murs yet, the 28-year-old has topped the charts across the pond with his singles “Dance with Me Tonight” and the aforementioned “Troublemaker.” When he spoke to EW in December, Murs acknowledge the divide between his UK success and impending introduction to crowds in the U.S. “I mean, when you come to the States, you’ve gotta start from scratch,” he said. “It’s a new start for everyone. We’ve got to showcase my talent and try to win new fans.”

My thoughts: I have to admit that I had never heard of Olly Murs until I read this article, but I'm really excited about his appearance on 90210, because I've always loved the music that they use on 90210. They've also had a lot of great musical artists perform on the show throughout 90210's run, especially this season, so I'm very confident that his music will be very good. I'm really glad that it looks like Olly Murs' appearance on the show won't be connected to Adrianna and her singing career. Adrianna for the most part isn't a very successful singer at this point in the series, and yet the writers expect the viewers to believe that big name singers like Carly Rae Jepsen and Ne-Yo would want Adrianna to be their opening act. I've always thought that was really stupid on the writers' part.

After the whole scandal with Adrianna stealing Javier's songs and trying to pass them off as her own songs in season three, I don't think that big name musical artists or anybody in the music industry for that matter would want to be associated with someone who did something like that. It also really bothers me that the writers seem to have completely dropped the idea of Adrianna trying to reinvent herself as a country singer like she was last season and she's now gone back to being a pop singer. I'm not surprised that the writers have dropped that storyline with Adrianna though. The writers for 90210 have always been very notorious for dropping storylines out of the blue with little to no explanation, but I digress. Like I said, I'm very excited to see Olly Murs perform on 90210, and I think I'll try to check out his music before his episode airs.

90210: First Look at Carly Rae Jepsen. Plus, 5 teases for season 5 | Inside TV | EW.com

Here's an article by Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez, which gives a preview of  Carly Rae Jepsen's performance is season 5 of 90210 as well as five other spoilers on 90210's fifth season. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives five spoilers on 90210's fifth season:

Ryan Lochte…glamping?
“That all happened very quickly,” says Olsen of Lochte’s guest stint. After receiving the offer, Olsen and Carr jumped at the chance to have the Olympian make a cameo. “And then it was like, ‘Great because he’s coming over right now!’” jokes Carr. In the end, the pair was able to work Lochte into a scene at a high-end camp ground where Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) and Max have gone “to try to get closer as a couple,” says Carr. Their one regret? “I was just so sorry there was no water!” says Carr.

What happens to Dixon?!
While Olsen and Carr wouldn’t spill on the exact outcome of Dixon’s horrific car accident, the one thing Olsen will spill? “It wasn’t a dream.” We also know that mom (Lori Loughlin) comes racing back into down as a result and Olsen says there will be “real consequences” that come from the traumatic event. “We really are going to live with how this plays out,” she says. “In the premiere, for everybody, we pick up right where we left off because such big things happened, we wanted to actually see them [followed through].” However, there is one person who won’t immediately be aware of Dixon’s situation: Naomi, who will provide some of the drama-balancing lighter moments in the episode.

Naomi and Max: Big changes
After Max left his bride in the altar in the season finale, we pick up with Naomi and Max (and everyone else, for that matter) “about 15 minutes after we left off,” says Carr. And while the outcome of Dixon’s accident will largely play into the premiere, Carr says there will also be “a lot of twists and turns” in their relationship. “[The premiere] does a lot more escalating of situations than resolving them. But you do continue to seeing them together this season,” she says.

Episode 2…
will feature a time jump of a few weeks.

Teddy’s back for episode 100 — and beyond
When I last spoke to Trevor Donovan, he had been booked for two episode this season to close out the storyline with Silver, who in the finale, asked him to father her child. But Olsen and Carr said there’s much more Teddy to be seen this season. “Teddy has a really big, exciting storyline that we’re really excited about,” says Olsen. “He returns in our 100th episode and events in his storyline start to get a little more complicated and we expect to see more of him as we move forward.”

90210: Carly Rae Jepsen to Guest-Star in the Season 5 Premiere-TVLine

Carly Rae Jepsen 90210

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Carly Rae Jepsen will be guest-starring in the season 5 premiere of 90210. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some scoop on Jepsen's appearance in the season 5 premiere:

Jepsen will perform a to-be-determined song off her new album in the show’s Season 5 opener, which is scheduled to air on Monday, Oct. 8. In the episode, Jepsen is the headliner at Adrianna’s Las Vegas premiere, which is interrupted when news gets out about Dixon’s car accident.

Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” track, which just spent its fourth consecutive week perched atop Billboard‘s Hot 100 singles chart, has become a pop culture phenomenon, inspiring a slew of YouTube-friendly homages and remixes.

“We fell in love with her song when we first heard it, and used it in last season’s finale before it was a national sensation,” said 90210 exec producers Patti Carr and Lara Olsen in a joint statement to TVLine. “We think she’s an exciting artist and are thrilled to be able to have her music on the show again, this time in a live performance in our season premiere.”

My thoughts: I've always hated it when the writers of 90210 have reality TV stars appear on the show as themselves because it just ends up being really stupid, but when they have musical artists perform one of their songs on the show, it usually fits into the episode pretty well. Adrianna's storyline in the season premiere sounds very interesting, so I love that Jepsen will be involved with that storyline. I also love the song Call Me Maybe, so I'm really looking forward to seeing Carly Rae Jepsen perform on the show.
