Is it just me or were the summer finales of Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy unusually dramatic? (My thoughts on Melissa & Joey-Episode 3x15 "What Happens in Jersey... (Part 2)" and Baby Daddy-Episode 2x15 "Surprise!")

I don’t know about everybody else, but I thought that between the aftermath of Mel and Joe sleeping together and then Austin showing up towards the end of tonight’s episode of Melissa & Joey right as Joe was getting home so he could talk to Mel about them pursuing a romantic relationship and the reappearance of Emma’s mother on Baby Daddy, the summer finales of Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy were unusually dramatic  for both shows.

When it comes to Austin showing up and telling Mel that he wants to have a family with her at the end of tonight’s episode of Melissa & Joey, I didn’t see that coming at all. I love Trevor Donovan, but I really hate that he/Austin showed up at the end of the episode. I’m not sure that I can buy Austin’s sudden change of heart about being willing to get his vasectomy reversed so he and Mel can have kids of their own. If he was so sure at such a young age that he never wanted to have kids that he would go as far as to get a vasectomy, I don’t think he would be so quick to change his mind about that. I guess the writers have to create drama between Mel and Joe somehow. Hopefully, Mel will ultimately tell Austin that she doesn’t think that they should get back together and Mel and Joe will pursue a relationship with each other when the show returns for the second half of the season.

The drama in tonight’s episode of Baby Daddy was much more predictable, if you ask me. As soon as Bonnie agreed to show Angela a picture of Emma, I knew that Angela would end up saying that she wants Emma back. That drama seems extremely forced though. Given the fact that the show is called “Baby Daddy”, I’m thinking that Angela will ultimately decide to not take Emma away from Ben. I hope Angela doesn’t try to sue Ben for custody, because that would just be too much drama for the show when it’s supposed to be a comedy.

Personally, I don’t think any judge in their right mind would grant custody of Emma to Angela given the fact that she had already abandoned Emma once and was planning to give her up for adoption when she left Emma on Ben’s doorstep in the pilot. The best case scenario would be that Angela will once again think about what she said earlier in the episode about her life being a mess and go away for good, realizing that she’s not fit to raise Emma on her own. The worst case scenario would be that Ben and Angela will agree to share joint custody and co-parent Emma together.

Once again Danny showed what a standup guy he is in this episode, first in the video of Riley’s 16th birthday party where he tried thwart all of the pranks that Ben was playing on Riley. He once again showed what a great guy he is when he stepped aside and let Ben try to make another move on Riley. I really don’t want Riley and Ben to get together though. After all, Danny has always been in love with Riley, even when she was overweight, while Ben’s interest in Riley is only recent now that she has lost all of the weight. At least Danny and his therapist girlfriend broke up, but I don’t know what he’s going to do about having both Riley’s name and his ex-girlfriend’s name tattooed to his wrists.

All in all, while I really liked tonight’s episodes of Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy, I’m not sure I like the dramatic turn both shows took for their summer finale. The drama between Mel and Joe is pretty interesting and I think it does fit the show. However, having the summer finale of Baby Daddy be so dramatic felt really out of character for the show, and it just didn’t completely work for me.

90210: Episode 5x10 "Misery Loves Company" Promo (HD)

Here's the promo for the next episode, episode 5x10 "Misery Loves Company". It looks like this is going to be another great episode. :)

90210: Happy 100th episode! (My thoughts on episode 5x08 "902-100")

As I’ve mentioned before, whenever I’m watching 90210 I constantly find myself thinking about why I like 90210 more than Gossip Girl, and whenever I’m watching Gossip Girl I also find myself thinking about that as well. Perhaps it’s unfair of me to compare the two shows to each other since they each have their own premise, style and feel, but given the fact that they are both teen dramas, I just can’t seem to stop myself from comparing the two shows to each other. I know that 90210 is an extremely flawed show, but I still love it more than I like Gossip Girl, especially when I think about Gossip Girl’s final season. Gossip Girl’s final season has been so boring that I’ve barely been paying attention whenever I’m watching it now, 90210 on the other hand has always had my complete attention as I’ve watched it this season. If you want to read more about my thoughts on the two shows, then I recommend that you check out these posts: (Why on earth did I give Gossip Girl higher viewing priority over 90210? ) and (90210: Even with its schizophrenic writing, I still love it a lot more than I love Gossip Girl )

When I think about Gossip Girl’s 100th episode, I can’t help but think about what a huge disappointment it was. In my opinion, a show’s 100th episode should feature appearances by popular characters that haven’t been on the show in a while if cast members have left the show since it began, it should pay tribute to the show’s history, and I think that writers should always try to do something special for the show’s 100th episode. Gossip Girl’s 100th episode pretty much revolved almost completely around Blair’s wedding to Louis, whom most fans of the show didn’t care about and in some cases didn’t like at all. When it comes to 90210’s 100th episode, I think they did a pretty good job of making it a very special episode as a whole.

There are a lot of things about the episode that I loved, there were some things that I have lukewarm feelings about, and there are a few things about the episode that I didn’t necessarily dislike about the episode, I simply found them rather random. One of the things that I liked the most about this episode is that it featured the return of Trevor Donovan/Teddy. I know that I’ve said this before, but I’m still mad that the producers reduced Trevor Donovan down to being a recurring guest-star again after season three, but kept Gillian Zinser on the show as a series regular for season four, but I digress.

Silver and Teddy had a lot of great moments together in this episode. They shot tennis balls off the roof of a building like they had done in season two and later in season three after Teddy found out that Ian had tricked him into coming out to all of his friends. Teddy told Silver that Shane (His boyfriend that he had staged a wedding in Las Vegas with last season) had broken up with him out of the blue. However, Shane later showed up at Silver’s place and told him that Teddy had broken up with him, not the other way around. Silver got the two of them together so they could talk, which initially made Teddy mad and he told her that he broke up with Shane because he got scared after what happened with Ian and that not everyone is fearless like she is. I don’t know why, but the idea of Silver being fearless was a big part of Silver’s storyline in this episode. First Vesta (One of the burlesque dancers at the club that Silver had been performing at) told her that she was fearless, and then Teddy told her that. Silver insisted that she isn’t fearless; she’s simply good at hiding it.

Here's a promo for next week's episode, which is also the mid-season finale, episode 5x09 "The Things We Do For Love". It looks like it's going to be a great episode, and I'm thrilled that Trevor Donovan will be back for next week's episode. :)

90210: Teddy related scoop on season 5 from Zap2it's Carina Adly MacKenzie

Here's some scoop on 90210 from Carina Adly MacKenzie's Monday Kickstart column for the week of 10/8/12.

"90210": Trevor Donovan returns as Teddy (aka our favorite part of the show ever) in tonight's Season 5 premiere. As we first reported, Teddy will have a multi-episode arc (two, to be specific) at the beginning of the season. Silver wants him to be her baby's biological father -- but Teddy wants to be part of the kid's life, not just the test tube conception. And now for the best news ever! Zap2it has exclusively learned that we can expect to see Teddy make a big return later in the season, too. Donovan is heading back to set soon to film another (longer) arc for Teddy.

90210: First Look at Carly Rae Jepsen. Plus, 5 teases for season 5 | Inside TV | EW.com

Here's an article by Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez, which gives a preview of  Carly Rae Jepsen's performance is season 5 of 90210 as well as five other spoilers on 90210's fifth season. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives five spoilers on 90210's fifth season:

Ryan Lochte…glamping?
“That all happened very quickly,” says Olsen of Lochte’s guest stint. After receiving the offer, Olsen and Carr jumped at the chance to have the Olympian make a cameo. “And then it was like, ‘Great because he’s coming over right now!’” jokes Carr. In the end, the pair was able to work Lochte into a scene at a high-end camp ground where Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) and Max have gone “to try to get closer as a couple,” says Carr. Their one regret? “I was just so sorry there was no water!” says Carr.

What happens to Dixon?!
While Olsen and Carr wouldn’t spill on the exact outcome of Dixon’s horrific car accident, the one thing Olsen will spill? “It wasn’t a dream.” We also know that mom (Lori Loughlin) comes racing back into down as a result and Olsen says there will be “real consequences” that come from the traumatic event. “We really are going to live with how this plays out,” she says. “In the premiere, for everybody, we pick up right where we left off because such big things happened, we wanted to actually see them [followed through].” However, there is one person who won’t immediately be aware of Dixon’s situation: Naomi, who will provide some of the drama-balancing lighter moments in the episode.

Naomi and Max: Big changes
After Max left his bride in the altar in the season finale, we pick up with Naomi and Max (and everyone else, for that matter) “about 15 minutes after we left off,” says Carr. And while the outcome of Dixon’s accident will largely play into the premiere, Carr says there will also be “a lot of twists and turns” in their relationship. “[The premiere] does a lot more escalating of situations than resolving them. But you do continue to seeing them together this season,” she says.

Episode 2…
will feature a time jump of a few weeks.

Teddy’s back for episode 100 — and beyond
When I last spoke to Trevor Donovan, he had been booked for two episode this season to close out the storyline with Silver, who in the finale, asked him to father her child. But Olsen and Carr said there’s much more Teddy to be seen this season. “Teddy has a really big, exciting storyline that we’re really excited about,” says Olsen. “He returns in our 100th episode and events in his storyline start to get a little more complicated and we expect to see more of him as we move forward.”

Here's some scoop on 90210 from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat Daily for Tuesday 8/14/12.

Tyler_Hayes: what's going on with 90210 this season? I need scoop!
The Liam-Silver-Navid love triangle? Still. So. On. "It comes out that [Liam] and Navid are kind of still battling for her heart in a way," Matt Lanter tells us of the 90210 premiere. "I think they're both a little disappointed to find out that she asked Teddy to be the father."

90210: Silver, Teddy and Dixon related scoop on season 5 from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez

Here's some scoop on 90210 from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez's The Spoiler Room column for the week of 8/11/12.

’90210′: TREVOR DONOVAN ON TEDDY’S BIG DECISION

To be, or not to be the babydaddy? That is the question. And while it’s the kind of crazy-bananas dilemma we should expect from 90210, that doesn’t mean Trevor Donovan ever expected his character would be wrestling with such a decision. But that’s exactly where the season finale left off — with Silver asking Teddy to help her get pregnant after she rejected both Navid and Liam’s offers to do so. (We’ve all been there! — God, I hope that always remains a joke.) So where does the new season pick up? With a major crisis, obviously.

“It’s going to be addressed in both the first and second episodes and it’ll definitely be a process for it to come to fruition as far as what he decides,” Donovan tells me. “He was as surprised as I was, and obviously he has to contemplate what his role would be in the child’s life, what his father’s role was in his life…there [are] a lot of issues that he’s concerned about.”

And what of Dixon’s crash, that is so bad it’s apparently bringing mom Lori Laughlin back into town? Well, the crash itself is “massive,” he says. But in better news, he reports the episode, while dramatic, doesn’t veer into complete Bummer-ville. “It’s certainly not a depressing episode, that’s for sure. It’ll tap on real life dramatic issues and still have light moments,” he says. “It’s always balanced — we got Naomi! She brings a whole lot of color.”

90210: Casting related scoop and Teddy related scoop on season 5 from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos

Here's some scoop on 90210 from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat Daily for Tuesday 7/31/12.

Sarah: 90210 scoop is much-needed!
Aussie alert! The CW soap is looking for a ruggedly handsome and geeky (the perfect combination, no?) Australian to come in and swoop one of the main girls off her feet for several episodes. Also coming in is Kendall, an actress looking to jumpstart her career with publicity stunts. Something tells us Liam (Matt Lanter), a fellow thespian, might get into trouble with this one! Not enough 90210 scoop for ya? We're hearing Trevor Donovan will return for at least three episodes, including the big 100th episode (the eighth of the season), as fan favorite Teddy. Wheeee!

Why on earth did I give Gossip Girl higher viewing priority over 90210? (My thoughts on the first 19 episodes of season 4 of 90210)

Between watching new episodes of most of my favorite TV shows live, on DVR, or on iTunes, I quickly fell behind on watching a lot of shows last season, namely Parenthood, House, Fringe, Grey's Anatomy, The Office and especially 90210. Somehow Gossip Girl ended up being one of the few shows that I always watched as soon as I downloaded it on iTunes the day after the episodes aired. Because I did that, I ended up having to suffer through Blair's idiotic and snooze fest of a relationship with Louis and a lot more of Chuck and Blair's sick and twisted relationship all in the hopes of seeing Dan and Blair get together.

I'm currently in the process of watching season 4 of 90210, and at the moment I've watched up to episode 4x20 "Blue Ivy". Based on what I've seen so far, season 4 wasn't perfect, but in retrospect it was definitely a trillion times better than season 5 of Gossip Girl was. So far Naomi's storylines in season 4 have proven to only mildly entertaining. The whole rivalry between Naomi and Holly was incredibly stupid and lacked depth in my mind. For me, it had a major "been there, done that" feel to it, because I kept thinking about Juliet's whole vendetta against Serena in season 4 of Gossip Girl. That storyline actually had some depth to it in terms of why Juliet wanted to get revenge on Serena and was pretty well written in general. Juliet's whole vendetta against Serena was definitely one of my favorite things about season 4 of Gossip Girl, especially considering the fact that I've pretty much always hated Serena and Blake Lively as an actress.

Bringing the focus of this post back to 90210, so far Ivy is the main thing that has brought down my level of enjoyment of season 4 every time Gillian Zinser is in a scene. Ivy is such a downer. Ugh! I'm still pretty upset about the fact that the writers kept Gillian on as a series regular for season 4, but made Trevor Donovan a guest star again. I'm so glad that Gillian Zinser isn't returning for season 5. Other than that, I've loved almost everything else about season 4 so far, especially Silver's, Liam's and Annie's storylines. I've also really enjoyed the relationship between Adrianna and Dixon so far.

That's probably one of the things that has surprised me the most about season 4 so far. Considering the fact that I really hated Adrianna at the end of season 3 for what she did to Silver, switching her bipolar medication with placebos after she realized that the reason Navid had broken up with her was because he wanted to be with Silver, I personally thought that Adrianna was beyond redemption after she did that. The fact that the writers also decided to keep Jessica Lowndes on as a series regular for season 4 after the writers basically assassinated the character Adrianna in season 3 instead of bringing Trevor Donovan back as a series regular also really pissed me off at first. However, I love how they handled keeping Adrianna around by having pretty much all of the characters give her the cold shoulder at first. Liam was probably the one character who was least hostile towards her at the beginning of season 4 considering the fact that he gave her a job as a waitress at his bar as a favor to Dixon. However, he quickly told her that their relationship was strictly a professional one; he didn't consider them friends at first.

One of the things that I've liked the most about the season so far is that it revisited the fact that Adrianna had a baby girl named Maisy that she gave up for adoption back in season 1. One of the biggest complaints that I've always had about 90210 is that it has the tendency to suddenly drop storylines and never mention them again, so I'm glad that they didn't do that with the fact that Adrianna had a baby in season 1. They also mentioned it last season too, but since Rebecca Sinclair had been working for the show since about the seventh episode or so of season 1 and was still involved with the show last season, it didn’t completely shock me that they mentioned it last season. I was mostly surprised that they revisited it in more detail this season though since the show has two new show runners now. I wasn’t sure that they would think about that part of Adrianna’s background as a character. Plus, I love how initially brought Silver into the storyline first by having her start dating Greg, not knowing that he’s the adoptive father of Maisy.

Also, I like how they acknowledged the existence of Navid's family and the fact that they also briefly brought Liam's mother back. That's something they haven't really done with the rest of the characters this season. It has really bugged me that they haven’t shown anyone’s parents, especially when it comes to Annie and Dixon. Annie and Dixon have had a lot of major problems to deal with this season that you would think their parents would come back to help them with, but the writers didn’t do that.

That's all I'm going to say about season 4 of 90210 for now, because I'm planning to write a post on the season as a whole once I finish watching it. I'm also going to write another post on my thoughts on the first four seasons of 90210 since the show has definitely had a very wild and chaotic run so far that I feel needs to be commented on.

This upcoming fall season 5 of 90210 will be airing at 8/7 central on Monday nights with Gossip Girl airing after 90210 at 9/8 central on Mondays. If you’re like me, and you watch a lot of shows that air at the same time, then I would recommend that you watch 90210 live or at least as soon as you can, but put Gossip Girl towards bottom of the list of shows you watch first and which ones you save for later. If there's any moral to this story for me personally, it’s that 90210 deserves to be given higher viewing priority over Gossip Girl next season. Based on the spoilers and casting news for season 5 of 90210, it sounds like 90210 has the potential to be really good next season, while it sounds like it’s going to be more of the same old idiotic crap on Gossip Girl next season. I’m basically going to watch the last season simply of unjustified loyalty at this point.

90210: Drops Gillian Zinser in Season 5-TVLine

According to TVLine's Megan Masters, Gillian Zinser won't be returning for season 5 of 90210. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Zinser's departure from the show:

The casting news should come as little surprise considering Ivy was last seen running away to Mexico with her soon-to-be deported boyfriend, Diego, in the show’s season finale.

It’s entirely possible Zinser could return as a guest star at some point, but an insider tells us that’s unlikely given how neatly her storyline wrapped up.

Link to the full article:90210 Drops Gillian Zinser in Season 5 - TVLine

My thoughts: I was never all that crazy about the character Ivy, so I'm definitely very happy about the fact that Gillian Zinser is leaving the show. I found Ivy extremely annoying last season. I'm still mad that they dropped Trevor Donovan as a series regular for season 4, but kept Gillian Zinser on as a series regular. Teddy's coming out storyline was definitely one of the best things about season 3, and I really wish that the writers had explored that more last season.

90210: Trevor Donovan to return-TVLine

According to TVLine's Megan Masters, Trevor Donovan will be returning to 90210 this spring. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Donvan's return to 90210:

Details surrounding Donovan’s return are being kept underwraps, but Zap2it (which first reported the news) says Teddy will reunite with at least one of his West Bev friends near the end of the season.

My thoughts: I'm thrilled that Trevor Donovan will be returning to 90210. Teddy's coming out storyline was one of my favorite things about season 3. I hope that Trevor will be sticking around for a while once he returns to the show.
