Question: How will Arrow’s Captain Lance and Laurel react to Sara returning, again? —Jake
Ausiello: Frankly, it could be the last thing Sara’s family needs! “Thanks to Laurel helping him see the light at the end of last season, Lance is back on the wagon for now, trying to keep on the straight and narrow,” Paul Blackthorne previews. “But that will of course be tested when Sara comes back from the dead. Because I think when your daughter’s coming back from the dead, she may not necessarily come back as quite the same person. Yeah, that’s going to be an issue for the family to deal with!’

Arrow: Scoop on Laurel becoming the Black Canary from TVGuide's Adam Bryant

Unfortunately, Laurel's father doesn't share your feelings. "He doesn't really handle it very well," Paul Blackthorne tells us of Lance's reaction to his daughter's evolution. Even if he doesn't approve of her more hands-on approach to crime-fighting, though, he won't try and stop her. "I don't want her doing that, but if I... try and manipulate or control her too much — help her, in his mind — it won't work," Blackthorne says. "He knows that if he pushes her too much, that just has the opposite effect."

Arrow: 'ER' actress cast as Laurel's mom | Inside TV | EW.com

According to Entertainment Weekly's James Hibberd, former ER series regular, Alex Kingston, has been cast in the recurring guest-star role of Dinah Lance, Laurel's mother and Detective Quentin's ex-wife. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some scoop on Kingston's role.:

Former ER series regular Alex Kingston is joining The CW’s breakout superhero drama Arrow in a recurring guest star role. The British actress will play Dinah Lance — Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) mom and Detective Quentin’s (Paul Blackthorne) ex-wife. Later this season Dinah will return to Starling City to make amends with her family that she abandoned years earlier following the tragic death of her daughter aboard Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) yacht.

In addition to her years on ER, Kingston recently earned some serious geek cred in a recurring role on the BBC’s Doctor Who playing River Song — so now Arrow has nabbed both Capt. Jack (John Barrowman) and River from that ‘verse.
