Question: I’m worried about The Carrie Diaries. It’s so good this season but not enough people are watching. Does it have any shot at being renewed? —Jaime
Ausiello: Showrunner Amy B. Harris remains optimistic. In fact, she tells TVLine that despite the underappreciated drama’s relatively weak ratings, it’s “very much” in the running for Season 3. “We’re still doing unbelievably well with streaming and DVR numbers, and that’s what got us picked up last season,” Harris notes. “We feel like we have a ton of story left to tell for these characters — so, fingers crossed. And The CW loves the show.” To that end, the Season 2 closer is being written as a season, and not a series, finale. “We told the 13 [episodes] with the idea that the finale would launch us into an exciting Season 3,” the EP explains. “[And] if this is the last episode, the audience will have some satisfaction, I guess, but I’ve certainly written it so we’ll have a very exciting Season 3.”

Ausiello: Survey says, “Neigh!” In other words, watch for a buck-naked Samantha on horseback in Episode 2.10 — airing January 10. The same episode will find Carrie stoked for a Valentine’s Day dinner with Sebastian — that is until he uses their reservation for an important business meeting. Sorry to burst your Sebastian-loving bubble but Carrie will be getting pretty serious with Chris Woods' Adam in the very near future. "He is a wunderkind young playwright who is kind of the talk of the town," Amy B. Harris previews. "Because he's young, Carrie is thinking she might have an in to get a story with him and then sparks fly." And while she acknowledges his arrival "might be sad" for Kyddshaw fans, Harris says Adam "feels like a really good fit for Carrie and he is beyond dreamy. I think the fans will enjoy seeing Carrie happy with him."

Ausiello: I do care! Asked to preview some ’80s-centric pop culture mentions, EP Amy Harris shared, “[This Friday's] second episode is a Z100 concert where Bryan Adams is playing. Also, Howard Stern gets mentioned as someone who Samantha knows, perhaps intimately. And we’re doing a Sixteen Candles house party.” Bonus Scoop: An upcoming episode will shadow Walt during “his first experience at a gay bar,” shares Harris. “That’s going to be a big one for us.”

"Carrie is 17 and Samantha is in her 20s," her portrayer Lindsey Gort says, adding that in addition to her friendships, Samantha isn't an ageist when it comes to guys either. "I'm all about the fun. No age, no limitations, there's no rules." Translation: Same old Samantha!

While Samantha is a man-eater, there's one guy she won't be going near anytime soon: Gort tells us she's yet to work with Austin Butler aka Sebastian Kydd aka the guy who recently broke Carrie's heart. As per the deal they'll eventually make, men don't matter, they're soulmates. (Nostalgia, it burns so good!) Gort did did spill some co-stars she'l be sharing some screen time with: Bustiers, acid wash denim and leather. Lots of it. We can't wait for the '80s rock-chic eye candy!

"She's lovely and she's a dead ringer. She's got just the right energy for it," Matt Letscher gushes of newcomer Lindsey Gort, who will be stepping into Kim Cattrall's iconic stilettos. As for how fans will first meet young Samantha, Letscher teases, "The way they introduce her in the first episode is really remarkable. It captures everything that everyone loves about that character in her later years. It's there right from the beginning, but also does it in a way that's really moving."
Will Katie Findlay be in Season 2 of The Carrie Diaries? Everything I have been hearing and seeing since filming started doesn’t show or mention her at all. I know the first season ended with Carrie and Maggie on bad terms, since she hooked up with Sebastian. – Gia
Maggie will definitely be back this season, I am assured, but don’t expect her and Carrie to make up anytime soon. Oh, and she may not be steering clear of Sebastian, either….

I wouldn’t hold your breath for Young Stanford’s arrival. As CW boss Mark Pedowitz said when asked about meeting other familiar faces, “This is the year that Carrie and Samantha first bond, and we’ll see what happens after that. But this is a year about Samantha.”

Ausiello: How about deets on her first conquest? The show’s producers are currently casting the role of Paul Haltom, “a genuine and kind Midwesterner who performs as a ninja at a Japanese Cultural Festival.” A grad of the Iowa State Gymnastics team, brown-eyed, twentysomething Paul moved to New York City to be an actor, and ends up sleeping with the young Samantha (played by newcomer Lindsey Gort). In the meantime, I’ll be taking bets about whether the legendary Ms. Jones drops a double-entendre featuring the term “corn-fed” or “katana.” Look for the Samantha-Paul cahoots to happen in Episode 3.

Ausiello: Carrie‘s going to be looking a lot Sexier in Season 2 now that the show is introducing a pre- Kim Cattrall Samantha, who is described in the casting breakdown as ballsy and confident with a wicked sense of humor and a don’t-screw-with-me attitude. When we meet her she’s working the velvet rope at a downtown nightclub. Oh, and the role will be a series regular, so Sammy Jo is sticking around.
