My final comments:
All things considered, I thought that as a whole this was a pretty strong season for It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and personally I thought that it showed that a show can still be amazing in terms of quality when it’s in its seventh season, which I think most shows are incapable of these days. Season seven had so many amazing episodes, sure, “Frank’s Brother” is in my opinion the worst episode ever of the show, but it had so many truly wonderful episodes that helped outweigh that one truly terrible episode.
This season also completely changed the way I look at the character Dennis Reynolds, both in terms of the show and the way I look at all of the fictional characters that I’ve ever encountered in books, watching TV shows, movies, etc. Before this season, I considered Dennis to be my least favorite character on the show simply because he didn’t make me laugh nearly as much as the other characters did when I was simply thinking about him and the other characters. Now he and Charlie both make me laugh the hardest when I’m just thinking about them. As I reflected on season seven as a whole, not only did I realize that he’s taken Dee’s place as my favorite character on the show, he now ties with the character Jenny Schecter from The L Word as my all-time favorite fictional character.
The reason why I like both Jenny and Dennis so much as characters is because they are both such complex characters who are both mentally unstable to a certain degree in my opinion. If I had to say which of the characters was the most mentally unstable, I would say that Dennis is, because he comes across as a complete sociopath in so many ways. I would also say that both Glenn Howerton and Mia Kirshner both play their roles perfectly.
Going back to the topic of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, one thing is for certain and that would be that I can’t wait for season eight to start. It’s definitely going to be a long wait since the next season probably won’t start until the middle of next September since that’s typically when the new seasons of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia start. I’m sure it will be worth the wait though.
My overall rating for season 7: A-
