Here's the official trailer for the upcoming spinoff of The L Word, The L Word: Generation Q. As someone who's a big fan of The L Word, I think it looks like The L Word: Generation Q is going to be a really entertaining and fun spinoff of the original series. That being said, I'm very curious to see how the writers are going to explain the absence of Tina and the other characters from the original series that apparently aren't going to be featured in this spinoff. I'm also wondering if the writers of The L Word: Generation Q are going to offer any resolution or follow up regarding who killed Jenny in the final season of The L Word. Personally, I'm really hoping that they do address that aspect of the final season of The L Word. That being said, I'm definitely really excited for the premiere of The L Word: Generation Q! 😀

Person of Interest: Season 3 Preview with Sarah Shahi-TVLine

Here's an interview that Sarah Shahi did with TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich. In the interview, Shahi talks about last week's episode (Episode 3x05 "Razgovor" "Разговор"), Shaw's sex life and her life in general, Shaw's relationship with Root and more. Here's an excerpt from the article:

TVLINE | I have to imagine that last week’s episode, with the little girl POI and Shaw flashbacks, was a favorite of yours.
It was. It was. In the moment, as we were shooting it, I felt like it was a complete and total disaster and I had no idea how it was going to turn out. But then after watching it I was very pleased with it.

TVLINE | Wait, why did you think it might be a disaster…?
I mean, it’s not like a binary code where it’s just a bunch of ones and zeroes and you’re pretty positive about the outcome. You just have no idea. So, I pretty much go in with that attitude no matter what I’m shooting. My role is to just tell the highest degree of truth with every character and every story. From there, I have no clue whatsoever how things are going to turn out.

TVLINE | Were you privy to Shaw’s backstory prior to that episode?
[Executive producer] Jonah [Nolan] and I had talked some last season about why Shaw is the way she is, and we kind of wanted to stay away from the cliché of “someone died and made her like that.” Instead, it was; What if the loss of someone triggered something that was already there? That’s what’s so brilliant about him, is he knows how to take something and make it completely original.

TVLINE | How protective are you and the writers about warming up Shaw too much?
Oh, incredibly protective. Because she is the newest character, it has to be earned — for Shaw more than anything, not so much for the audience. We have such a rich, dynamic character with backstories that we’re just barely touching upon, you definitely don’t want to give in too much. I think we’ve established a bit of charm and her sarcasm and her “balls,” the way she goes about things. But I don’t want to push too hard or too much with her because I feel like it would be false.

My thoughts: Honestly, I've never really liked Shaw or any other role that I've ever seen Sarah Shahi play over the years, so I'm still not happy that Sarah Shahi is a series regular on Person of Interest now. In Sarah's defense, I definitely like Shaw more than I like the character that she played on The L Word (Carmen), but that's not saying much. I can definitely relate to Sarah being starstruck by Amy Acker and her portrayal of Root. I for one am beyond thrilled that Amy Acker is a series regular on Person of Interest, because I love the character Root, and I'm a huge fan of Amy Acker's. That being said, I should probably mention that I haven't started watching season 3 of Person of Interest yet, but I'm really excited to, because I've heard a lot of great things about the "Girl's Night Out" episode.

90210: Wow! It really sucks to be…well…pretty much everybody on this show right now (My thoughts on episode 5x18 "A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Call Girl")

It’s been a while since I’ve written any reviews for 90210, and that’s partly because I found the past several episodes rather boring, but it’s mainly because I’ve been getting a ton of traffic for my posts related to the show New Girl, so I decided to focus on that show for a while. Plus, I’ve been working on a couple more long-term and elaborate posts for other shows as well as some writing not related to my blog. Anyway, given the fact that there are only a few episodes left of the series, I’ve decided to get back to writing reviews for the show every week; that being said, here are my thoughts on this episode.

I have to say that my thoughts on this episode as well as the past several episodes have been very mixed. They’ve also caused me to once again think a lot about why I like 90210 more than Gossip Girl, but at the same time I’ve also been thinking about some things that I think both the writers and the cast of Gossip Girl did a better job of compared to the cast and crew of 90210.

One thing that I’ve almost never been able to stop doing whenever I’m watching 90210 would be that I’ve constantly found myself comparing the character Naomi to Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, and this would definitely be example of something that I liked more about Gossip Girl. Both Naomi and Blair are similar to each other in terms of the type of the character that they are: the “bitch” of the show, who’s rich, ambitious and is constantly seeking to elevate their social status. Don’t get me wrong, I like Naomi and I think that AnnaLynne McCord is one of the stronger actresses from the cast of 90210. However, I definitely like Blair more than Naomi, and I like Leighton Meester more than AnnaLynne when it comes to their acting.

When it comes to why I like Blair more, most of it has to do with the writing. To me, Blair has much more depth as a character than Naomi does. To me, a kiddy pool has more depth than Naomi does as a character, and I think the same can be said of the storylines that Blair had throughout Gossip Girl’s run compared to Naomi’s, which often lacked depth and just came across as a lackluster variation of quite a few of Blair’s storylines. For example, the rivalries that Naomi has had throughout 90210’s run have often felt very reminiscent of not only Blair’s storylines, but sometimes Serena’s as well, but where the storylines that revolved around Naomi dealing with a rival usually suffer is the motivation behind the rivalry, which have often been rather shallow and petty, making it hard for me to care that someone was causing problems for Naomi.

The writers for Gossip Girl on the other hand often gave enough depth and proper motivation and reasons for the viewers to get invested in storylines like that. For example, there were times where Naomi’s rivalry with Holly in season four reminded me a lot of Juliet’s vendetta against Serena throughout the first half of Gossip Girl’s fourth season, which I couldn’t help but get emotionally involved in as I was watching that storyline. Sure, I pretty much spent the whole storyline cheering Juliet on as she did everything in her power to ruin Serena’s life, mainly because I hate the character Serena, but at least the writers made me feel something. When it came to Naomi’s feud with Holly, I couldn’t have cared less about it and thought that their whole rivalry was beyond lame. 

Person of Interest: Scoop on episode 2x16 "Relevance" from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez

Here's some scoop on Person of Interest from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez's The Spoiler Room column, which was posted on 2/19/13.

PERSON OF INTEREST: SARAH SHAHI PREVIEWS HER DEBUT
If Jason Bourne and Catwoman had a daughter, it would be agent Samantha Shaw, Sarah Shahi’s character on this Thursday’s Person of Interest. Her words. And with a description like that, Shahi says “it was kind of impossible not to do it.”

So what exactly brings Shaw into the fold? That’s hard to explain without ruining a few secrets about this special episode, but what Shahi could say was that Shaw crosses paths with Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) after her number comes up. But their first encounters don’t go exactly as planned.

“The first couple of times they try to save me, I don’t know who the f— they are, so I try to kill them,” she laughs. But her survivor’s spirit is a result of Shaw’s damaged past, she explains. “All she knows is that she’s has nowhere to go. Her own country has turned against her and she has no idea who these guys are. She feels like she can’t trust anybody but herself.” (Tease: By the end of the episode, Reese and Finch might work their way into her good graces.)

Thursday won’t be fans’ only taste of Shaw. The character is set to return, and Shahi says she’d jump at the opportunity to do so. “The dynamic is great and working with [Caviezel and Emerson] is so great — even the tiniest look is full of so much,” the former Fairly Legal star says. “There’s TV and then there’s Person of Interest.”

Jennifer Beals To Star In ABC Pilot ‘Venice’ Helmed By McG, Ilene Chaiken To Showrun

According to Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, Jennifer Beals has joined the cast of the pilot for ABC drama Venice in a starring role. Ilene Chaiken has signed on to serve as the executive producer and showrunner for the show if it goes to series. This serves as a reunion for the two, Beals played the role of Bette Porter on The L Word, which Chaiken co-created and executive produced. The L Word ran from 2004 to 2009. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Venice:

Written by Byron Balasco, Venice, from Warner Bros TV and McG’s Wonderland Sound And Vision, is a soap about the haves and the have-nots of California’s most seductive city, Venice. It focuses on two rival families and a forbidden and dangerous romance emerging between them as the families battle for control of Venice. Beals, repped by APA and Greenlight Management, will play Lisa Carver, the elegant bohemian matriarch of the Carver family, one of the two feuding clans. McG is directing the pilot, which he, WME-repped Chaiken and Belasco executive produce with Peter Johnson.

My thoughts: Unless I'm mistaken, I'm pretty sure that I read about Venice a while ago before this news was announced, and I was really excited about this show when I saw that it's being compared to William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. I'm a huge fan of Shakespeare's work, so that alone would have been enough to convince me to check the show out. I'm even more excited about this show than I was before now that Jennifer Beals has joined the cast and Ilene Chaiken has joined the show as executive producer and showrunner. Jennifer Beals is a very talented actress, and I thought that she did an especially good job on The L Word.

I know that a lot of people have criticized Ilene Chaiken's writing for The L Word, but I for one think that she's a fantastic writer. The L Word is one of my all-time favorite TV shows. I've always thought that Ilene had a real talent for coming up with great ideas for storylines revolving around relationship drama, and I'm sure that she'll able to bring that talent to this show. I've been hoping that she would work on a new TV show ever since The L Word ended and Showtime decided to not go forward with the spin-off. While she hasn't been involved with Venice since the very beginning of its development, I'm just excited that she's working on another TV show. I really hope that Venice goes to series and that it does well.

Scandal: Season 2 Spoilers–Tony Goldwyn on Fitz/Olivia Breakup and More-TVLine

Here's an interview that Tony Goldwyn did with TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich. In the interview, Tony talks about the scene where Fitz kills Verna and Olivia and Fitz's breakup. He also gives some scoop on tonight's episode (Episode 2x14 "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot") and how he will be directing an episode of Scandal later this season. Here's an excerpt from the article where talks about Fitz killing Verna:

TVLINE | We’re coming off quite an episode. What do you think raced through Fitz’s head when Verna revealed to him the truth about the election rigging?
It was, I think, a three-part reaction. Maybe four parts. First, it was complete shock at what she was saying to him, because at first he thought she was in her delirium. When he does realize what she’s saying, the realization that Olivia was involved is absolutely crushing for him because, you know… he “gets” Mellie. And he’s not terribly shocked that Cyrus is an opportunist, even though he’s deeply hurt and disappointed. But Olivia is someone who Fitz had put on a pedestal — the highest pedestal, really. She is someone he came to rely on as a reflection of the best part of himself or the man that he aspired to be, which was the antithesis of his father. So her having betrayed him in that way invalidates everything for him and confirms his worst fears, in a sense, about himself. If she is corrupt, then everything loses all meaning. And that’s absolutely devastating.

TVLINE | And the way Verna drove the dagger in a bit further, with the comment about his father….
When Verna says, “I owed it to your father” to tell you the truth… That’s a moment where he, for me, was first saying, “[My father] wins. He was right about me,” and I think the bottom falls out of his life. And when I walk to the [hospital room] door, in that moment I think he has the opposite reaction. He sort of feels, “I’m not going to let [my father] win. He’s not going to beat me. I made a commitment to be something, to do this job right. And this was not my decision to steal [the election].” I think he believes he could have won it, maybe, and he’s not going to let Verna, this sort of surrogate for his father, take him down — so he makes this insane decision to kill her.

TVLINE | Actors, of course, can be very protective of their characters. What was your reaction when you heard for the first time that Fitz would end Verna’s life?
We got this script very late; I don’t think any of us got it before the table read. So when we sat down to read it out loud together and I got to the scene that precedes that — at Verna’s funeral, when Olivia comes up to me and says, “I will wait for you Fitz. I’ll wait as long as you need,” and I turn to her and say, “Oh yeah, about that; I changed my mind” — I was completely shocked. I literally couldn’t speak the words. I couldn’t figure out where that came from because [it preceded the flashback to Verna's reveal]. As far as I knew, the last time I spoke to Liv, I said, “Wait for me,” and suddenly coming out of my mouth are these words that are the antithesis of what I’ve felt. I somehow forced the words out and [series creator] Shonda [Rhimes] looked at me and mouthed, “It’s going to be OK, don’t worry.” And then the scene came up, the scene with Verna that followed, and I realized, “Oh my God, I’m going to kill her.” I was shocked by that, but I was less shocked than I was by my reversal with Liv. I couldn’t process that. I had, like, a literal and physical reaction.

My thoughts: Personally, I still can't believe that Fitz killed Verna. It will be very interesting to see how the writers handle that aspect of Fitz's storyline moving forward. To me, there's pretty much no coming back from doing something like that on a TV show. If anybody finds out that Fitz killed Verna, I'm not sure how or if the writers would be able to have Tony Goldwyn remain a part of the show. It was a pretty bold move on the writers' part to have Fitz kill Verna, if you ask me.

I'm definitely upset that Fitz has decided to stay married to Mellie rather than get back together with Olivia. It's pretty clear that Fitz doesn't truly love Mellie. If he does, then he definitely doesn't love her as much as he loves Olivia, so I don't understand why he would ever want to stay married to Mellie and be happy about it. I'll admit that I couldn't stand Mellie at first, but she has definitely grown on me. Although, since this is a TV show, the writers have to drag things out for a while before they can have Fitz and Olivia become a couple, so I can kind of understand why they are having Fitz stay married to Mellie for the time being.

As for Tony Goldwyn directing an episode of Scandal, I'm absolutely thrilled about that. I for one think that he's an amazing director. Tony directed one of my all-time favorite episodes of The L Word (The season 1 finale). He also directed several other episodes of The L Word, but my favorite of the episodes that he directed is definitely the season 1 finale. Tony has directed a lot of other shows that I really like, such as Grey's Anatomy, Justified and Damages, but his work as a director for The L Word stands out to me the most.

90210: Holy product placement galore! Is this an episode of 90210, or a commercial for a Surface tablet? (My thoughts on episode 5x09 “The Things We Do For Love”)

One thing that I’ve noticed a lot of networks doing this year is that they are advertising the final episode of TV shows (mainly dramas) that will air in 2012 as the show’s mid-season finale or the fall finale. Another thing that I’ve noticed about episodes of a TV show that have been promoted as the mid-season/fall finale tend to go all out and make the episodes full of excitement and cliffhangers if it’s a drama to get the viewers excited for the shows to return in 2013. I don’t know if the networks’ executives are telling producers for TV shows to make the episodes big and full of excitement, or if it’s simply the writers of shows such as Grimm, Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Revolution, or in this case 90210 who are deciding to make the episodes have enough excitement, drama and cliffhangers in them to rival the show’s season finale. That being said, I thought that this was a great fall finale for 90210. It was full of excitement, interesting plot developments and some rather exciting cliffhangers at the end of the episode.

While I enjoyed pretty much all of the storylines in this episode, my favorite storyline was definitely Liam’s storyline where he was working with Annie to figure out who has been blackmailing him after he got another anonymous note from his blackmailer demanding that he give them $500,000. Although, one thing that has really bothered me about this storyline was the fact that given the writers have been acting like Liam has become one of the hottest and most popular actors in Hollywood right now, it seemed a little odd to me that he would be struggling to come up with that much money. Plus, he also owns The Offshore, so he definitely has to have some money coming in from that. Maybe I don’t have all the facts about how much money Liam has made from his acting career, but for a show where the writers have acted like Naomi has an unlimited amount of money at her disposal to spend ever since she got her trust fund back in season three and the writers are now acting like Annie’s equally loaded with cash from the settlement she got from Marla’s family, it seems weird to me that they would act like Liam doesn’t have $500,00 to pay his blackmailer when he’s a movie star. If I had to guess, I’m guessing the whole thing with Annie giving Liam the money is simply a plot device on the writers’ part as way of having Liam and Annie slowly (slow for 90210 anyway) move closer and closer to getting back together. After all, Liam and Annie have been spending a lot of time together in the past several episodes. As much as I love Annie and Riley as a couple, words can’t describe how much I want Liam and Annie to get back together.

The other thing that I really liked about Liam’s storyline is the fact that they tied it Annie’s storyline with Riley where she was thinking about going to Scotland for writing program that would apparently last two years. It looks like the writers are indeed doing something with the idea of Annie exploring the possibility of being a writer after all, which they set up at the end of the 100^th episode when she created a blog and was writing about her relationship with Patrick during her time as an escort last season. What I don’t understand is why the writers are acting like the only place Annie could possibly go for a writing program would be another country. I can pretty much guarantee that there plenty of opportunities to take writing classes right in Beverly Hills. For example, she could always major in English at CU with a concentration in creative writing like I did when I went to UNL. My guess is that the writers are using the idea of Annie going to Scotland for two years for a writing program as another way to set up the idea of Annie and Riley breaking up with each other.

Once Upon a Time: It's time to meet Captain Hook! (My very brief thoughts on episode 1x04 “The Crocodile”)

It was a real treat to see Rachel Shelley in tonight's episode of Once Upon a Time. I didn't know that she was going to be guest-starring on that episode. It was the first thing that I've seen her in since The L Word ended in 2009. I think she's an incredibly talented actress. On a more shallow note, she ranks very high on the list of actresses that I have crushes on. :) I have to admit that I initially wasn't very happy about the addition of Colin O'Donoghue/Captain Hook to the show since the show already has a lot of characters, but I have to say that I was very impressed by his first episode.
