Person of Interest: Scoop on the possibility of Finch making changes to The Machine when he rebuilds it and scoop on Shaw's return in season 5 from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich
Here's some scoop on Person of Interest from this week's (Posted on 11/11/15) Matt's Inside Line column.
Is Person of Interest’s Mr. Finch going to make any ethical changes to The Machine when rebuilding it? –Kaan
That issue is very ripe for debate when(ever) the CBS series returns, with Finch and Root taking very opposite sides. “Root is still [The Machine’s] No. 1 champion,” Amy Acker told me at POI’s 100th episode party, “so she is trying to convince Harold that we should maybe make some ‘modifications’ while we’re rebuilding Her.” Finch, though, is at least at first included to pursue the status quo. “What’s great fun about the early episodes is watching the two of them argue about, if they can adjust The Machine’s secret formula, should they?” says EP Jonah Nolan. “Given that the stakes are higher and time is running out for them, what are the ethics in changing your strategy?”
Could you give us some scoop on Shaw’s return to Person of Interest? –Alejandra
Sarah Shahi assured me, “We will learn what happened to Shaw over the last nine, 10 months, however long it is she’s been missing.” And put most simply, Team Samaritan “definitely did a number on her.” As such, count on meeting a Shaw you perhaps have never quite seen, when she resurfaces a few episodes in. “Everything that’s going on in that episode, these are the reasons why I said yes to this show,” the actress raved. “It’s everything that I wanted to play in this character, all the places I wanted to go to as an actress but never had the opportunity, and they wrote it for me.”

Person of Interest: Scoop on when Sarah Shahi will return to the show from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich
Here's some scoop on Person of Interest from this week's (Posted on 4/24/15) Matt's Inside Line column.
I have a question about Person of Interest: Is Sarah Shahi going to return as Shaw? –Russ
I asked the showrunners for an update when I saw them at last week’s Paley event, and their handshake agreement with Shahi remains in place. “Our deal with Sarah is that when she’s excited to come back, we’re excited to have her,” Jonah Nolan said. And if/when the new mom of twins gives her bosses the nod, “We have a killer storyline for how her character comes back into the universe of our show. We’re ready to roll with that just as soon as she is.”

Person of Interest: Root and Shaw related scoop on episode 4x09 "The Devil You Know" from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich
Here's some scoop on Person of Interest from this week's (Posted on 11/17/14) Matt's Inside Line column.
Anything on Person Of Interest’s Root and Shaw? They haven’t gone on a mission together in a while. —Justin
In the Nov. 25 episode, Root and Shaw will disagree on how to handle a new threat sprung by Samaritan – and when I pressed Sarah Shahi for details, what she remembered most was the episode featuring “a lot of chicks on bikes.” So there’s that.

Got any more Person of Interest scoop? — Jay
That scene between Shaw and her former partner (and, apparently, Samaritan) at the end of Tuesday's episode? Yes, it spells big trouble for Shaw and Team Machine. "Things are going to get messy and dirty really soon," Sarah Shahi teases. "We've all been instructed to lead these double lives. Shaw is the one who challenges her own anonymity by putting herself out there. Her accepting this job exposes her, and it's a big risk that she's taking."

Person of Interest: Season 3 Preview with Sarah Shahi-TVLine
Here's an interview that Sarah Shahi did with TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich. In the interview, Shahi talks about last week's episode (Episode 3x05 "Razgovor" "Разговор"), Shaw's sex life and her life in general, Shaw's relationship with Root and more. Here's an excerpt from the article:
TVLINE | I have to imagine that last week’s episode, with the little girl POI and Shaw flashbacks, was a favorite of yours.
It was. It was. In the moment, as we were shooting it, I felt like it was a complete and total disaster and I had no idea how it was going to turn out. But then after watching it I was very pleased with it.
TVLINE | Wait, why did you think it might be a disaster…?
I mean, it’s not like a binary code where it’s just a bunch of ones and zeroes and you’re pretty positive about the outcome. You just have no idea. So, I pretty much go in with that attitude no matter what I’m shooting. My role is to just tell the highest degree of truth with every character and every story. From there, I have no clue whatsoever how things are going to turn out.
TVLINE | Were you privy to Shaw’s backstory prior to that episode?
[Executive producer] Jonah [Nolan] and I had talked some last season about why Shaw is the way she is, and we kind of wanted to stay away from the cliché of “someone died and made her like that.” Instead, it was; What if the loss of someone triggered something that was already there? That’s what’s so brilliant about him, is he knows how to take something and make it completely original.
TVLINE | How protective are you and the writers about warming up Shaw too much?
Oh, incredibly protective. Because she is the newest character, it has to be earned — for Shaw more than anything, not so much for the audience. We have such a rich, dynamic character with backstories that we’re just barely touching upon, you definitely don’t want to give in too much. I think we’ve established a bit of charm and her sarcasm and her “balls,” the way she goes about things. But I don’t want to push too hard or too much with her because I feel like it would be false.

My thoughts: Honestly, I've never really liked Shaw or any other role that I've ever seen Sarah Shahi play over the years, so I'm still not happy that Sarah Shahi is a series regular on Person of Interest now. In Sarah's defense, I definitely like Shaw more than I like the character that she played on The L Word (Carmen), but that's not saying much. I can definitely relate to Sarah being starstruck by Amy Acker and her portrayal of Root. I for one am beyond thrilled that Amy Acker is a series regular on Person of Interest, because I love the character Root, and I'm a huge fan of Amy Acker's. That being said, I should probably mention that I haven't started watching season 3 of Person of Interest yet, but I'm really excited to, because I've heard a lot of great things about the "Girl's Night Out" episode.

Person of Interest: Shaw related scoop on season 3 from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Question: Since Person of Interest announced that Sarah Shahi would be a series regular, social media has been lit up by passionate fans who either love or hate her character, Sam Shaw. Are they sticking by their choice? —Casey
Ausiello: Absolutely — and the thing to keep in mind is that as a result, Shaw isn’t now some full-time member of Finch’s team. As showrunner Greg Plageman explained to Matt Mitovich as part of our Fall Preview Spectacular, Shaw’s betrayal by her own government “informed her opinion about belonging to anything or giving allegiance to anyone right now.” And as such, “She helps us out only when she feels like it.”

Is there any chance Amy Acker and Sarah Shahi might both become regulars on Person of Interest? I just loved the dynamic of that foursome in the season finale, and really like both actresses in their respective roles. Please say it is so! –Caro
Just days after you sent question, Shahi was announced as a series regular for Season 3. As for Acker, we caught up with her Wednesday night at the Saturn Awards, and while she has yet to hear from the show let alone see a new script, she likes Root’s chances for a return. “I was really happy that I got the phone call [from The Machine] at the end,” she said, “so I feel like they have to at least bring me back.” Speaking of the startling phone call, Acker reckons it confirms that “The Machine and Root have a very special connection — at least in her mind. So it’s either perpetuating her fantasies by calling her or [something else]!” As for mixing it up with Shahi’s Shaw some more, Acker effused, “She’s so great, I would love to torture her again any day.”

How about some Person of Interest scoop? Like, will there be any more Zoe this season? – Shawn
There is still no news on the Zoe front, with Paige Turco busy off shooting her CW pilot. Instead, I can A) remind that Sarah Shahi is due back as the similarly kick-ass Shaw on April 4, and 2) reveal hat the just-renewed CBS drama will introduce in its Season 2 finale (airing May 9) the recurring character of Mrs. Penn, a powerful, intelligent and wry 50something femme who never flinches in the face of danger.

‘PERSON OF INTEREST’: GRACE WILL BE ‘CENTRAL’ TO END OF THE SEASON
If you love the Grace-Finch storyline on CBS’s Person of Interest, you’re going to dig what’s coming up.
“[Finch's] relationship with Grace is central to the end of the season,” Michael Emerson reveals to EW. “The audience will see her in the course of more flashbacks to a happier time, [and] we’ll see the beginnings of their relationship and it’s evolution.”
Also toward the end of the season, said Emerson, we can expect a return from Sarah Shahi as what Emerson refers to as the “very dangerous, unpredictable, kick-ass secret warrior” Samantha Shaw, and also expect the Machine to also be a a big part of the remaining episodes as the show explores “it’s past, its present and its future — if there is one.”
“Although ours is a series that is comprised of standalone episodes, we do have a kind of overarching mythology and that has to do with the life of the machine — it’s origins, its development and its current utility. Or it’s current danger. And so we will go back to that, which I think is an interesting theme to most of the viewers of the show,” he says. “That will be a big story that takes us out of season 2. “

PERSON OF INTEREST: SARAH SHAHI PREVIEWS HER DEBUT
If Jason Bourne and Catwoman had a daughter, it would be agent Samantha Shaw, Sarah Shahi’s character on this Thursday’s Person of Interest. Her words. And with a description like that, Shahi says “it was kind of impossible not to do it.”
So what exactly brings Shaw into the fold? That’s hard to explain without ruining a few secrets about this special episode, but what Shahi could say was that Shaw crosses paths with Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) after her number comes up. But their first encounters don’t go exactly as planned.
“The first couple of times they try to save me, I don’t know who the f— they are, so I try to kill them,” she laughs. But her survivor’s spirit is a result of Shaw’s damaged past, she explains. “All she knows is that she’s has nowhere to go. Her own country has turned against her and she has no idea who these guys are. She feels like she can’t trust anybody but herself.” (Tease: By the end of the episode, Reese and Finch might work their way into her good graces.)
Thursday won’t be fans’ only taste of Shaw. The character is set to return, and Shahi says she’d jump at the opportunity to do so. “The dynamic is great and working with [Caviezel and Emerson] is so great — even the tiniest look is full of so much,” the former Fairly Legal star says. “There’s TV and then there’s Person of Interest.”
