Hook and Emma might’ve ended things on a good note last season, but as we all know by now, nothing’s simple in Storybrooke. Colin O’Donoghue revealed that season 4 picks up right where we left off, which means that “the relationship is still very very complicated and they both have to sort of figure out who they are and how they can make it work if they’re going to make it work,” he said. “Hook is still a pirate at heart even though he very much cares for Emma and really has strong feelings for her, that point being who he is will sort of complicate things. And in the same way, I think with Emma, she’s got her own walls that she needs to break down and figure out if she’s able to feel again and love again. It’s going to be complicated. It’s not going to be plain sailing. Excuse the pun. You know what I mean.” And about Hook’s bad boy side? “You might see a little bit of that,” O’Donoghue teased. “I think people will be happy with his development in this season and they can expect to see a little bit of the pirate back, I think.”

Any scoop on The Knave’s arrival to Storybrooke on Once Upon a Time? —Charlee
I asked O’Donoghue if he was at all worried about The Knave stealing any of Hook’s “stud thunder” and he didn’t seem too worried. “I think that The Knave and Hook are very different characters. I think Michael [Socha] is fantastic, and I think he’s a great addition to Once Upon a Time. Obviously, in Wonderland he was fantastic. I’m excited to see how he’ll interact with the characters from Once Upon a Time and with Hook.” O’Donoghue added: “Maybe they can have a dual, a stud-thunder duel.”

Ausiello: Not anytime soon. “It’s definitely something I myself am wondering,” says Colin O’Donoghue, three episodes into shooting Season 4. Especially given the significance of the trade, in the name of helping Emma, “I would be intrigued to see exactly what happened there,” the pirate’s portrayer adds. “The Jolly Roger was his life for 300 years!”

I’m loving the Hook/Swan thing on Once Upon a Time, but something is bothering me: How long will Emma put up with his choice of clothing? Come on, they’re not in FTL anymore and no one else is dressed as such.  A shower and some nice clothes just might move Emma in the right direction. —Linda
Aye, we may just find out if (new) clothes indeed make the man. I can exclusively report that there are plans to get Hook out of his pirate gear and into clothes befitting our world — and that his new look will be debuted in the early part of Season 4. Fun fact: After Colin O’Donoghue and I took this pic during my last set visit, I tried on Killian’s coat, and that slab o’leather weighs 50 lbs. if it weighs an ounce!

Just because old issues have been put to rest, you can count on new ones arising. “There will be some challenges for them,” cocreator Adam Horowitz teases. Eddy Kitsis elaborates, saying, “The very first obstacle is Emma’s guilt over the fact that she just destroyed Regina’s relationship [with Robin Hood],” by transporting Marian to our world. “So there’s a part of her that feels guilt in starting a new romance of her own.”

Once Upon a Time: I may be losing interest in this show, but the creators sure do know how to convince me to keep watching (My thoughts on episode 3x21 “Snow Drifts” and episode 3x22 “There's No Place Like Home”)

I’ve wanted to write a review of the two-part season three finale, but for a variety of reasons, both in my control and out of my control, I’m just now getting around to it. That being said, here are my thoughts on the season three finale of Once Upon a Time.

As the title of this post suggest, I’m definitely starting to lose interest in the show, and not only am I starting to lose interest in the show, I’m also really starting to lose confidence in the writers. I’m starting to think that Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz don’t really have a long-term plan for the show, and perhaps they never have. The final scene of the season finale only added to my belief that Kitsis and Horowitz are just making stuff up as they go along. That’s something I don’t think that writers of a serialized show should be doing if they want people to view it as a good show, but I’ll talk about that more later.

Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz might not know how write the show in such a way that fills me with confidence in regards to their writing, but for the time being they sure do know how to keep me from giving up on watching the show completely. What’s kept me from giving up on the show completely at this point is the fact that there has been a lot of truly excellent material for Emma and Hook and the relationship between them this season in my humble opinion. Fortunately for me, both parts of the season finale revolved heavily around scenes between the two of them, with flashbacks of Emma’s past featured throughout both parts of the finale. Being someone who is a huge Captain Swan shipper, I absolutely loved that about the season finale.

At the beginning of the episode of the episode Emma was spending time with Mary Margaret, David and their new baby boy, who still didn’t have a name. Mary Margaret and David told Emma that they were planning to reveal his name at a makeshift coronation ceremony at Granny’s, saying that they would have had a coronation ceremony for Emma if they could have. Upon Henry showing up at Granny’s and accidentally spilling the beans to Mary Margaret and David that they are looking for an apartment in New York, Mary Margaret, David, Regina and Hook all stated their objections to the whole idea. Personally, I thought that Regina was a little out of line acting like the whole thing was her business. If I were Emma, I probably would have told Regina to piss off, but then again since she was the only mother Henry knew until he went and found Emma at the beginning of the series, it does make their whole family situation rather complicated. It’s especially complicated since Henry has said that he does still consider Regina to be his mom, or at least one of his moms now that he has been reunited with Emma.

I can’t speak for the fictional character of Emma, but Jennifer Morrison, at least, feels that the couple’s new closeness makes sense. “If you had said it to me when we first started the show, I never would have anticipated it — but the reality is that he’s a very kindred spirit,” the actress tells TVLine. “They’ve both been through similar things, they’re both survivors and they’ve both had to fight in order to literally just live. There’s also something in them where they’ll both go to great lengths to protect the people they care about — and sometimes they’ll do really bad things to do that, but they both have really good hearts, so I think they see a lot of themselves in each other.” Emma is also seeing impressive changes in the pirate. “This season in particular, because Hook has really fought for Emma to be true to herself and be the most powerful version of herself, he’s earned a tremendous amount of trust from her, and that’s what really makes it organic for Emma to feel vulnerable with him,” Morrison notes. “I know that in my own life, I have a strong reaction to people who empower me and say, ‘You should be yourself, even if it means making some mistakes.’ So the fact that he does that, and isn’t at all put off by that, makes it a good place to start a relationship.”

Can you offer any scoop on Once Upon a Time‘s Blackbeard (played by Charles Mesure)? –Stefanie
Previewing this Sunday’s episode, Colin O’Donoghue noted, “Blackbeard obviously is very much a dreaded pirate, and you get to see Hook interact a little bit with him — I can’t tell you how or why, because that will give away too much – but and it harks back a little bit to all the old Errol Flynn films and stuff like that. It’s good old-fashioned, swashbuckling fun.”

‘ONCE UPON A TIME’: JENNIFER MORRISON TEASES UPCOMING REVEAL

So, OUAT fans, you may have seen a few Hook-Emma-centric scoops in the past few days — like this photo and GIF or this piece of video. Remember those? You should. They almost broke the Internet.
But I still have so much more to share with you! Namely, the answer to two burning questions I’ve been getting often this week and one that no one has asked but I asked anyway because I’m shameless that way:

+ BURNING Q No. 1: Will there be more kisses? TBD. But Colin O’Donoghue says he can’t see any further movement happening before they get Henry back. “That should take precedence, especially considering Emma is his mother,” he says. “So it’s about whether anything can grow from that and within the confines of this quest. So I don’t know.”

+ BURNING Q No. 2: Will Neal find out about the smooch? As you know, when the big kiss happens, Emma is still under the belief that Neal is dead. But once reunited, will the truth come out? Jennifer Morrison wouldn’t say directly, but promised, “There is a point at which Emma’s truth about both Neal and Hook have to be made public.” “You can imagine a million ways in which it will happen, and you will not imagine the way it will happen,” she teases.

BURNING Q No. 3: So…is Hook a good kisser? After a huge laugh, Morrison says, “Listen, I have no complaints on this show. I’ve gotten to kiss Jamie Dornan, Michael Raymond-James, and Colin O’Donoghue. I think I’m doing OK.”

Once Upon a Time: Episode 3x05 "Good Form" Promo (HD)

Once Upon a Time: Welcome to Neverland, Everybody! (My thoughts on episode 3x01 “The Heart of the Truest Believer”)

Going into season two of Once Upon a Time, I have to admit that I was very skeptical about whether or not the show was going to be very good due to the addition of several series regulars and several new recurring guest-star roles, because I’ve always felt like Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz don’t do the best job of handling the ensemble nature of the show and balancing out the screen time for all of the characters at times. To me, they tend to come across as being like children who are given a new toy to play with; they get excited about the new characters and the actors who play them, so they feature them a lot when they are first introduced, and then once they add another new recurring character to the show, they push that character into the background and feature the new characters a lot until the next time they add another new character to the show. At this point, it appears to be an endless cycle with them doing that, and it’s something that I wish the writers would stop doing on a constant basis. Personally, I think they should just focus on the characters that they already have on the show for a while before they add too many more new characters to the show.

Despite my skepticism about the introduction of several new characters last season, I ended up thoroughly enjoying the addition of Colin O’Donoghue and the character Captain Hook to the show and season two as a whole. I now consider Captain Hook to be one of my favorite characters on the show, so I’m thrilled that they made Colin a series regular, which is something I was definitely a little leery about at first.

I’ll admit that season two ended up being much better than I thought it was going to be. It wasn’t perfect, but it was still pretty good. That being said, unlike the end of season one, the two-part season two finale left me feeling very excited for season three and very optimistic that season three is going to be very good and full of excitement. As a whole, I thought the season premiere was pretty good, and while I’m on the subject of Captain Hook, I have to say that the scenes between Captain Hook and Emma were definitely one of the biggest highlights of the episode for me. I especially felt like the scenes where they were bonding over their respective relationships with Baelfire/Neal really allowed both the writers and Captain Hook as a character to really demonstrate some of Captain Hook’s good qualities. I think that’s important since Captain Hook has done some questionable things at times.

Based on the season two finale, a big part of me thinks that Emma will end up with Neal at the end of series given how they acted during the scene where Neal fell through the portal back to the Enchanted Forrest. However, I for one am rooting for Emma to end up Captain Hook. I feel like Jennifer Morrison and Colin O’Donoghue have amazing chemistry with each other, and I think that having Emma and Captain Hook become a couple would give the writers some great material to work with. For starters, I would love to see how Snow White and Charming would react to them being a couple since neither of them seems to like Captain Hook all that much. To me, Emma being romantically involved with Captain Hook would be the equivalent of parents having to deal with their teenage daughter dating the high school’s bad boy.

I am told that Hook’s sure-to-illuminate reunion with Pan is “imminent.” As for more Hook scoop, his backstory is also fast-approaching. In that episode, Colin O’Donoghue says, “You’ll see different colors to Hook, and to Killian Jones before he becomes Hook. You begin to understand a bit more why he is so self-absorbed, apart from the whole thing with Milah and why he’s a pirate. [It's about] how he becomes a pirate, which is brilliant. The guys have done a great job with that.” And speaking of Hook and Milah….

I have a question brought up by the Once Upon a Time Season 2 DVD set. Were Milah and Killian actually married, making him Henry’s step-grandfather? –Rita
No, that confusion is the result of a mistake made during the production of a DVD featurette. Series cocreator Adam Horowitz confirms, “As far as show ‘canon’ is concerned, Hook and Milah were never married.” (Glad to have that hot potato off my desk!)

You know my stance on the whole Emma thing: What guy wouldn’t? But where Hook is concerned, seeing as he’s now on a journey with two eligible bachelorettes, the Jolly Roger might transform into the Love Boat. “It’s probably about time he sort of found another love in his life,” Colin O’Donoghue shared with me at season’s end. “But if it was a toss-up between [traveling companions] Regina or Emma, I’m not sure exactly who he’d go for.” Given that Emma is currently reeling from the loss of Neal, “Maybe he’ll have fun with Regina, while he’s waiting for Emma,” the pirate’s portrayer ventures. “Who knows!”
