Revenge: Casts Emily’s Mom—Look Who Scored the Plum Role!-TVLine

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Jennifer Jason Leigh has been cast as Emily's mother on Revenge. The role is a recurring guest-star role, and she will first appear early in the second season. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Leigh's role:



“This [character] is going to have some deep psychological issues,” Revenge creator Mike Kelley told TVLine back in May. “So we’re going to need somebody that can play volatile and dangerous; all of the scariest parts of Emily’s personality are going to be present and apparent and a little bit out of control in her mother. But at the same time, what works so great for Emily is that sweet façade, so this woman needs to feel like she’s got potential for kindness. You look at her and you don’t know that she’s as damaged as she is inside. But you’ll quickly learn that this is a very dangerous person.”

My thoughts: I have say that Jennifer Jason Leigh being cast as Emily's mother comes a complete surprise to me given how much I've heard people talk about the possibility of Elizabeth Mitchell or Marcia Gay Harden being cast as Emily's mother. I was really expecting Elizabeth or Marcia to get the part. I've always loved Jennifer Jason Leigh on Weeds, so I'm not definitely not disappointed that she's been cast as Emily's mother though. I'm simply very surprised by this casting news, because Jennifer Jason Leigh wasn't an actress that I had even thought of when I was thinking about who I thought should play Emily's mother. That being said, I'm sure that Jennifer Jason Leigh will do a great job playing the part, because based on her work on Weeds, I think she's a fantastic actress.
