According to TVLine's Megan Masters, Ryan Lochte will be guest-starring in a season 5 episode of 90210. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Lochte's appearance on the show:
Playing himself, the aquatic superstar will turn up as a guest at a resort where the recently-reunited Naomi and Max are staying in an attempt to strengthen their relationship.
Lochte — who made his debut as a thesp last week in two Funny or Die videos — has been vocal about his desire to take on Hollywood after his strong showing at the 2012 London Games. However, his interests initially seemed to be of the reality variety, with the swimmer naming both Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor as dream projects.
90210 returns to The CW on Monday, Oct. 8 at 8/7c, with Lochte’s installment airing Oct. 29.

My thoughts: Personally, I'm not exactly sure what to make of this casting news. For the most part, it just screams "stupid ratings stunt" and I don't think having Ryan Lochte guest-star in an episode is going to do anything to boost 90210's ratings for season 5. Lochte's role in Naomi and Max's storyline for the episode sounds rather stupid to me. It will probably end up being just like the season 3 premiere when they had Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian guest-star as themselves. Having the Kardashians guest-star as themselves didn't do anything to help the ratings, and it was the same thing when they've had other reality TV stars guest-star on the show.
I love 90210, but the producers are idiots if they think having reality TV stars guest-star on the show is going to attract more viewers. They've always been very lousy when it comes to who they pick for stunt casting. If the producers really want to resort to stunt casting from time to time, then they should put some serious thought into their casting process and cast popular actors instead of reality TV stars.
