According to Entertainment Weekly's James Hibberd, Arrow, The Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural have each been renewed for a second, fifth and ninth season respectively. Here's a statement from the president of the CW, Mark Pedowitz, regarding these renewals that was included in the original article:
“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz. “Not only do [all three] perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

My thoughts: I don't watch Supernatural, so I don't have anything to say regarding its renewal other than that I'm happy for the people who are fans of the show that the show has been renewed. I'm several seasons behind on watching The Vampire Diaries, but I love the show, so I'm thrilled that it's been renewed. The news that Arrow has been renewed for a second season doesn't come as a surprise to me at all considering the fact that the show's ratings are great for the network's ratings standards. Arrow has actually become my favorite new show this season, so I'm definitely the most excited about it being renewed.
For anyone who's reading this article that might not already be watching Arrow, I have to say it's a great show. The show has great writing and a great cast, especially when you compare the writing and acting on the show to other shows on the CW network. I would definitely recommend watching Arrow to anyone who is a fan of the TV show Revenge, or was at least a fan of the show during its first season. As a fan of Revenge, I'm not going to deny that season two hasn't been nearly as good as season one was, but I still think that Revenge is a good show.
The reason why I recommend watching Arrow to fans of Revenge is because they actually have similar concepts. The concept that they both share is that the main character on both shows (Oliver Queen on Arrow, Emily Thorne on Revenge) are both trying to honor their fathers' dying request to get revenge on certain people. Both shows feature some romantic elements as well, which definitely creates some interesting drama. The main thing that sets the two shows apart is obviously the fact that Arrow was inspired by the comic books that feature the Green Arrow, while Revenge was inspired by the book The Count of Monte Cristo. Even if you don't consider yourself a big fan of comic books, I would still recommend checking out Arrow, because it really is a truly great show.
