Revenge: Scoop on Ashley Madekwe's exit from the show and Emily and Victoria related scoop on the season 3 premiere from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Revenge from this week's (Posted on 8/20/13) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Any details on how Ashley will be written off Revenge? —Geoffrey
Ausiello: Despite portrayer Ashley Madekwe’s very public plea that her character “die in a blaze of glory,” showrunner Sunil Nayar tells us that Ash — who will depart in the show’s Sept. 29 opener —will live to see another day. “We’re not killing her,” he reveals. “We’d never do that! She’s too great a character. As sad as we are to bid her farewell at the moment, you’ll see that the way we resolve her storyline now gives her an opportunity to come back with her own revenge agenda.”

Question: Can you tease any good Emily-Victoria moments in the Revenge premiere? —Joyce
Ausiello: I could, but I’m going to let Emily VanCamp do the honors. “We have a moment where we actually band together,” previews the actress. Of course, like most of the truces forged by the sworn enemies, this one is short-lived. “We put up this united front and then, after whatever it is is taken care of, it’s like, ‘OK, I’m outta here,’” VanCamp says with a laugh. “But it’s nice to be able to play something [civil] with Madeline [Stowe] because [Emily and Victoria] are always at odds each other. And I hate it because I love Madeline so much. We’re so evil to each other.”

Revenge: Ashley Madekwe Leaving—Won’t Appear in Season 3-TVLine

Ashley Madekwe Leaving Revenge

According to TVLine's Vlada Gelman, Ashley Madekwe's series regular option wasn't picked up for Revenge's third season, and she won't be making any appearances on the show next season. Here's an excerpt from the article:

As first reported by our sister site Deadline, the actress’ option was not picked up due to “storyline reasons.”

Madekwe’s ouster is the latest in a string of Revenge shakeups, including the death of Connor Paolo’s polarizing Declan in the Season 2 finale and the shocking departure of creator Mike Kelley. As previously reported, executive producer Sunil Nayar will take over as showrunner next season.

My thoughts: I always kind of liked the character Ashley, so a part of me is sad to see her go. That being said, she always seemed like a rather extraneous character to me. I always felt like her main purpose on the show was to introduce Emily to Victoria at the beginning of the series. Once she did that, it felt like Ashley was just kind of "there" and it seemed like the writers never knew exactly what to do with the character. I can't help but wonder if one of the reasons the writers made Ashley Conrad's assistant for his political campaign was to give Ashley Madekwe something to do. Besides that, they never gave her that much of a storyline.

It's possible that not bringing Ashley Madekwe back is also partly because for budgetary reasons. After all, Revenge's ratings really declined quite a bit last season. Perhaps ABC renewed Revenge with one of the conditions of the show's renewal being that they would make budget cuts. I, along with a lot of other people that I've encountered online were never really a fan of Connor Paolo as an actor, or Declan as a character, so that could be why the producers felt like they should kill Declan off the show. Although, at least killing Declan off the show will definitely help move the story forward, so that might have been the only reason why the producers killed him off the show, but I digress.

All that being said, I really will miss Ashley Madekwe, and I hope that she will be able to find work on another show where she will be better utilized as an actress.

Revenge: Ashley related scoop from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos

Here's some scoop on Revenge from Kristin Dos Santos' new Spoiler Chat Daily for Monday 3/12/12.

Deedee: Loved all the Revenge interviews! The cast is amazing. Do you know if Ashley is gonna screw over the Graysons?
My prediction? In more ways than one! Ashley Madekwe (Ashley) told me her character is "always looking out for herself" above and beyond anything or anyone else, and she will do something "surprising." I floated the theory by her and Henry Czerny that Ashley and Conrad Grayson will hook up (romantically or otherwise) and one of them looked like the cat that ate the canary. Hmmm!

shelbyteach: Revenge

Wow, quick and to the point. Alrighty then! Don't expect Ashley (Ashley Madekwe) to be waiting in the wings for long. "I just shot a very juicy scene," Madekwe recently tweeted. "I will say this: It involved a male member of the cast." Need some more on Victoria's sidekick? "She will play a big part in the finale," creator Mike Kelley teases.

Revenge: Scoop from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat Daily

Here's some scoop on this week's episode of Revenge from Kristin Dos Santos' new Daily Spoiler Chat for Monday 2/13/12.

Katie4892: Now that we know it's Daniel Grayson (uuuugh!) who gets shot at the Fire & Ice party, will we get answers to our other burning Q's on Revenge?
Wait a minute, missy. Just because mama Victoria cried out "Daniel!" in the preview does not mean he is definitely the one who was shot and/or will die! We also just talked to Daniel's (Joshua Bowman) stunning real-life girlfriend and TV fiancĂ©e, Emily VanCamp, at Fashion Week in NYC. And she promises: "Yes, there will be some answers next week, and then some will be answered in the following week." Emily confirmed what costar Ashley Madekwe told us last week—that they reshot the Fire & Ice party from the pilot for a fresh perspective—but added, "Then you start to see people who are there that you didn't know were there. Some people come back" and— she added with an evil laugh—"some people die." But who pulled the trigger? Emily wouldn't spill.
