It sounds like you’re in luck, Sel, because Phoebe Tonkin says there are a “bunch” of fun Hayley/Elijah scenes on the horizon. “Daniel [Gillies] and I work so much together,” she reports. “The show right now is quite dark and heavy, so there aren’t any light, fun moments, but I’m hoping there will be some between Hayley and Elijah.”

"They are going to explore the question of what a family owes each other and what family obligations necessitate in episodes coming up. We're beginning to see a new dynamic in the Klaus/Elijah relationship and that's going to affect us for a long time to come. It's going to have longstanding effects."

Ausiello: Well, Jess, you’re not alone; Phoebe Tonkin is also stoked about her new role. “I’m so excited, they’ve already fitted me for fangs,” Tonkin tells TVLine. “I’ve always wanted to play a vampire, so I couldn’t be more thrilled.” As for which of the bloodsuckers in her life will be showing her how to use those fangs, Tonkin is wary of planting any Haylijah seeds in our heads. “It’ll be interesting to see who she strikes up relationships with during this journey,” she teases. “Maybe she and Klaus could form an unexpected friendship.”

The Vampire Diaries: Daniel Gillies Joins the Cast of The Originals spin-off as Elijah-TVLine

According to TVLine's Vlada Gelman, Daniel Gillies who plays Elijah on The Vampire Diaries will be joining the cast of the show's potential spin-off, The Originals. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on the potential spin-off:

Gillies will co-star opposite Joseph Morgan (as Elijah’s Original hybrid brother Klaus) and Phoebe Tonkin (as werewolf Hayley) in Vampire Diaries‘ April 25 episode, which will serve as a planted pilot.

In the hour, penned by executive producer Julie Plec, Klaus returns to the French Quarter of New Orleans, a supernatural melting pot that he helped build centuries ago, and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel. Intent on helping his self-destructive brother find redemption, Elijah must side with Marcel’s enemies to keep Klaus in line.

If The Originals is ordered to series, Gillies will star on both the spin-off and his Canadian medical drama Saving Hope.

But perhaps the biggest threat to Elijah’s life is Gillies’ new TV project, Saving Hope, which “starts [filming] in a month or so,” says the actor. When we voiced our concern about what the potential new series means for his Diaries alter ego, he assured us that he could do both shows. “When I’m shooting [Saving Hope], it’s in the off season of The Vampire Diaries,” he explains, adding, “And I can always come back. … Wild horses couldn’t drag me away from The Vampire Diaries.”
