Castle: Scoop on the possibility of Castle's father returning in season 7 from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Castle from this week's (Posted on 5/14/14) Matt's Inside Line column.

It wasn’t right how Castle Season 6 ended, but I do believe it has something to do with Castle’s dad. Is he going to make an appearance in Season 7? –Nola
When I asked show boss Andrew W. Marlowe if he had in mind a third beat for the Jackson Hunt/Spy Daddy storyline, he said, “There’s always stuff floating in the back of our minds, but it all depends on [James] Brolin’s availability and finding a story that makes sense and honors the characters.” So I myself am speculating no, Castle’s dad was not involved in that finale twist.

Expect the unexpected! "I meet my father in our Thanksgiving episode. [James] was great. He was a real goofball which I was not expecting, which was really good for Jeff's dad," Joel McHale teases. "Not goofball in his performance, but he was a really funny, like gregarious guy and it made his character very dynamic. He's a warm, likeable guy which is not what Jeff wanted."

Castle: Look Who’s Playing Rick’s Dad!-TVLine

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, James Brolin has been cast as Rick Castle's MIA dad. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some scoop on this casting news.:

The Emmy-winning acting vet will appear in Castle‘s big February sweeps two-parter (set to air on Feb. 18 and Feb. 25), which finds Rick and Kate investigating a murder that subsequently exposes a plot to kidnap a wealthy Middle Eastern businessman’s daughter.

As TVLine previously reported, Nip/Tuck‘s Dylan Walsh guest stars in both episodes as FBI Agent Harris, an even-keeled professional brought in to help find the kidnappers.

It’s unclear how Castle’s pa figures into the case, if at all.
